There's nothing "official" about the cricket teams. The cricket boards are private entities, and the teams they select represent them. ICC is a private organization that the boards have chosen to affiliate with.
Theoretically you could set up your own cricket board any day and call it Ehsan's Pak cricket board or something like that. You could select your own players and create your international cricket league and call it ICL instead of ICC. You could play matches against similar teams.... they'd be as official as ICC matches are. The only reason why you might or might not succeed is money and the fact that people have been conditioned to expect PCB and BCCI, CA, ECB etc to represent their country's teams and ICC to be the league that regulates those teams and matches.
Aren't we going overboard. All BCCI has asked and that also unofficially (In some corridor discussions) to change some dates to maximize revenue. It has asked that from ICC.
As for talking to Australia and England, making pressure groups is general infulencing startegy in any spehere of life.
^ I kind of agree. Indian board realizes that although it can pressurize ICC and can get certain things done their way but thats about it. Aussie/English boards have done it in the past and Indian board will do the same here.
Anyone who thinks that Indian board and players can do away without international cricket is/are living in a fool's paradise.

Thats a valid point. ICC as well as BCCi are corperate bodies with hardly any govt controll. So any one else with sufficient money could create a new board and can attract players.
Saby's post sort of clears the point. Nobody is talking about separate entity.
We are doing analysis till paralysis..
All BCCI is trying to do is maximize its revenues within given frame work, I still don't see anything wrong with it..

No..they cant do away with International cricket but can do away with ICC. ICC is not International cricket. Question is will they?? I hope not.
What is stopping the BCCI from glamourizing domestic Cricket matches on the lines of NFL/NBA etc - I will never know.
The popularity of Cricket being what it is in India, I am convinced that given jazzy team names, jazzy outfits and most importantly jazzy TV coverage for domestic matches- it will only be a matter of time before people's emotions get involved with their local teams e.g. Bombay, Bengal etc...and very soon domestic Indian cricket will become competitive on the lines of International Cricket...and I don't see any dearth of sponsors for domestic games once that happens.
It seems like a no-brainer to me....similar initiative has already been taken by Indian Hockey Federation - only that Hockey isn't as popular as Cricket in India.
exactly .... with the amount of cricket craze in the country, some limited marketing is all it takes to make the inter-state Ranji trophy the biggest tournament in the world. only people who can't think out of the box will refuse to see its viability.
I don't think that's the idea,,
Still though less sponsorship in local hockey and soccer tournaments is much more than these players make any day on international stage. PHL and National league are more colorful and more watched in India than India's international matches in these sports.
Yea i think the BCCI is missing a beat here and they can make a lot of money through this, the appetite for cricket in india is unbelievable! in a sense this is the overall strategy of Indians today to be recognized globally becomea superpower!
