As some of you might have read, Indian cricket powers want to go alone. They claim that India generates more than half the revenues generated by the rest of the ICC member countries combined! So why bother with the ICC?
Basically, they want to pick and choose their opponents, tours, and schedules. They are most interested in strong teams such as Australia, England and Pakistan. They believe that the Indian cricket fans want to see India compete with the big wigs and not Sri lankans, New Zealanders or Zimbs.
They want to dictate their terms. I think this will be detrimental to the game in the long run. As much as we want to see good contests between two equal teams, it is equally imperative that we develop the not so strong teams. A single country can’t just have the best deal in such a global sport.
Everything is right about the article except Global Sport, if more than 50% revenue come from one country and three countries Australia, England and India more of less generate all the money. BCCI is rightly trying to increase revenue it generates and that will benifit ICC as well, since they get %age of revenue generated.
ICC has been taking very aggressive stance lately and its time when some boards stand up.
what if ICC places sanctions on India in case BCCI wants to go solo? if ICC barrs other nations from playing India, what will India do? Can India survive then?
Even if ICC doesn't bar other countries but just says it will not give the matches played with India an official status. That alone would be detrimental to Indian cricket.
I think the current board is being stupid. They want to get rid of ICC Champions Trophy just because Jagmohan Dalmiyah created it. We all know the bad blood that exists between Jaggu and the current powers of BCCI.
Also, I think India is being careless. They are waking up a sleeping lion, the ICC. I think the end result will be an even stronger ICC. They will sense this as a sign of worst times ahead and take precautionary measures.
Looks like this current Indian policy is being run by some power hungry, senseless sportsmen, and banyas who only think in terms of money.
This is beginning of something boiling for last 5-6 years now. I think if Aus and England got together with Indiz, ICC will only be appointing Umpires, match refrees and technical/Special commeettes. Thats the future Indiz are seeing for ICC.
No India can't go alone here.....Besides the so called forerunners of Cricket's birth & then it's nourishment, i.e England,Australia,Newzealand & South Africa(Last 2 to some extent)....would never let India create a havoc...Thinking that England & Australia would get together with India is just a joke....Revenue or no revenue india would find itself at lost ends...
I think it's about time Indian BCCI is shown a reality check. I say ban them for a couple of years and let it's players play Ranjhi trophy. Wouldn't it be nice that Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman play their last 3 to 4 years of cricket against Baroda and Bengal?
If kerry packer could create its own version of cricket by money, then why not india. They could contract players from other countries. Even now i could see certain players from other countries doing advertisements in india. is that not a possibility.
Please don't compare Packer with BCCI. Kerry brought a new dimension to the sport in the form of ODI and night cricket. What is BCCI doing to promote the sport? They are yet to experiment with Twenty20 format. Gimme a break. It's not about revolutionizing the sport but rather earning a quick buck while the party is on.
Getting superstar players to play in India won't sell tickets at the gate or tv rights. Look what a flop this latest Super series was.
I am not comparing Kerry packer and BCCI. I think all the subcontinent cricket board are dump. Its about money. Packer used money to lure them.
Lets look at the scenario this way. Assume that the cricket in India is zero for the first year of the ban. Then if BCCI managed to get some cricketing stars to come together and make a team(obviously with money), and then take on the indian team, this will definitely enthuse the people and people will be in the stadium. Now if ICC do not ban these players then it will become a regular feature and then if some companies get involved could make up teams that will have contracted players and play cricket. This will kill cricket based on national teams. But still the BCCI will be go laughing to the bank.
^ I don't think so. Even during the Kerry Packer era the national teams robbed of their stars had attractions and Packer had to innovate to keep his circus going. No amount of money can rival the enthusiasm generated amongst the public when it is India/Pakistan or Eng/Aus.
An unofficial Pakistani team will not be able to generate the same amount of enthusiasm for a series with India. Even now sometimes you get an Indian X1 playing a Pakistani X1 but it lacks the passion and emotions of an official tour.
vinesh ji, keep dreaming. nobody can stop you from dreaming. pecker and BCCI are two different creatures. one got the money and flooded his love, cricket, to revolutionize it. The latter is earning money because of cricket. At this ultra-marketing time of cricket, I don't think any player from any team will leave national side to join Indian circus. They are earning enough money + future. BCCI is just being arrogant because of loads of money its bringing into cricket. However I would say it must be a country's decision to who to play and how frequent. But alteast play minnows once in 5 or 6 years.
When SA team was banned, players from other countries who played there in one way or the other were also fined/banned, so if any player from Pak/Aus/Eng is invited to play in India in case Ind is banned then those players may not be allowed to play in “ICC” games thus losing their status.

Dont jump on me. I just gave u a scenario where there could be such and such possibilities. When cricket is starved in India.. even a pakistan XI will create the required enthu to fill a stadium like the eden gardens.
i am not dreaming. Its u guys who are dreaming. Why would the ICC cut off a golden duck. Who gains by having India on board, ICC, so why would ICC would like India to go.
Exactly, that is what i said, if "ICC dont ban them".:). Other possibility is that they retire from cricket and then play in India. How about Lara for egs or Warne or Murali.
so what! we don't need the ICC if they won't treat India which geneates >50% of the revenue the way they ought to. If ICC tells its 'members' not to play India, then they lose 50%+ of their revenue which those fat cats used to riding on our money will have to forego. We'll make the Ranjit Trophy the world series of cricket. We'll determine how the game is played. We'll consider admitting outsiders if they behave.
Almost all stories carried by CricInfo on the initiatives by Indian Cricket Board, mention Australia and England as the other players in this game. Pakistan seem to be no where in sight. Indian board has given the example of Ind-Aus series as a hugely profitable series. I am just curious if Ind-Aus series was really much more profitable than Ind-Pak series last year?
Secondly, no info is really available as to how other cricket boards view these statements by Indian Board.
However, on the issue of Champions Trophy, I kinda agree with Indians. Its cricket over-kill. A prestiguous world cup, every four years, is just fine.
Talk about over estimating your own importance. Stop playing the world teams and see how quickly your sponsors abandon you. Ranjhi trophy being world series, bhai mere this is KK not jokes section.
