The ICC is investigating whether [URL=“http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/42683.html”]Salman Butt](http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/current/story/501107.html#fcomments) has breached the terms of his 10-year ban for spot fixing by becoming a studio pundit for a Pakistan TV channel during the World Cup. Five years of Butt’s term were suspended on the condition of him making no further breaches of the code and participating in an anti-corruption education programme under the PCB.
However, just a matter of days after the judgements were handed down in Doha Butt was reported to have joined up with Channel 5, a local station in Pakistan, to act as a studio expert during the World Cup. Because the channel is a non-licensee or rights holder the ICC said it had no power to act against Butt, although the governing body is now taking the matter further.
“We are not satisfied with this appointment and we have written to Tribunal chairman Michael Beloff QC to enquire whether this could be viewed as a breach against the terms of his suspended sentence,” Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, said.
The matter was discussed at the ICC board meeting in Dubai on February 15, when enhanced anti-corruption measures were also confirmed with fines now in place for any players or support staff who take communication devices into dressing rooms. It had earlier been confirmed that all members of World Cups squads, including backroom staff, will be banned from using Twitter during games.
Steve Bernard, the Australia manager, is a frequent tweeter during matches but he now won’t be allowed to post messages although the restrictions won’t be in place outside of games and managers will still be allowed to have their phones in the dressing room.
“This is just a precaution, it’s not something we are overly concerned about,” an ICC spokesman told AFP. “But we do feel a team manager’s phone should be used for operational purposes only during matches. This applies to all teams and this decision has not been taken in response to anything the Australia team manager has said or done previously.”
The ICC Governance and Review Committee also discussed various options for the 2015 World Cup, which will be staged in Australia and New Zealand. The tournament will be reduced to a 10-team event and it is currently being decided whether there will be a qualification phase to allow an Associate nation to take part. The move to shrink the World Cup has sparked anger among the Associate countries, who feel they are being marginalised.
It was also confirmed that the 2011 ICC Awards will be held in London on September 12 and the Annual Conference will take place in Hong Kong from June 26-July 1.

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

ok. I have no sympathy for Salman Butt but this moron Lorgat is proving himself @$$. When the player is banned, he should be kept out of any ICC related tournaments and any tournament that is officially sanctioned by any board (PCB and others) and thats it. What else he does to make living, should not be ICC's business.

Whats next? Logart will ask ICC to investigate if Butt has violated the ban if Butt is found reading sports/cricket/world-cup section of Jang newspaper or if Asif is found visiting any cricket related website or Aamir has open a sports shop selling cricket bats?

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

Salman should have also acted with commonsense. At the very least it shows a lack of sensitivity on his part. Should he even be looking for such a role after being shamed and banned by ICC. What sort of message does it send out to fans and kids esp.? That it is ok for a dishonest person to act as an expert on TV. It is like a primary school teacher who has been suspended after being charged with child abuse then applying for a job as a baby-sitter!

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

^ To me its like primary school teacher who has been suspended after being charged with child abuse then going to library and reading children books. He did corruption, he got punishment, now will it also take his right to earn a living?

Even prisoners can work and earn in jail.

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

We have accepted corruption as a part of our culture.
As if it is not odd anymore!

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

Go icc. I would do the same. Go after he corrupt asshole and try to block whatever he tries to make money off in cricket.

Why are people still sympathetic of butt? Blaming icc?? I would imagine Pam fans would want all these players assets seized and money taken away

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

so how many of you pay bill, browse Facebook, check personal email, come to GS from work? Does your company allow all these activities. just wondering.

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

"Butt TV"...... hmmm.... he should seriously think of launching a new TV channel!

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

Actually it should be the TV channel who should be ‘embarassed’ to hire someone like Salman Butt as ‘expert’. Salman Butt means business/making money, as we have all seen in the ICC verdict that the penalty was because of lack of remorse, so why should he show any shame now?

So you want him to turn into a criminal now? :hehe: Yes I would want to seize all his assets but I wouldn’t block his income source/job.

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

Salman Butt's cricketing career is practically over...after the 10 years of banning to play cricket under the umbrella of ICC...so...Butt can afford to ignore any restriction laid by the ICC etc... :D

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

he could name it Satay Bazz TV

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

I think I phrased my post wrong. I am not saying block whatever business or money Butt tries to make. I meant anything related to cricket.

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

Yes. Reasonable personal browsing is OK with almost all employers.

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

agree with Decent and Zaby - right on...

Regardless of our zero support for Salman, which is a pretty much agreed upon deal here....I think he is taking to the ICC since he in his mind is piss*d off and is showing them like the gulley goon who got jailed by the cops but is now out on parole and is coming in the back alley again teasing the girls again just to show off...

Also yes, why should ICC worry, he is already pretty much done with Cricket....

Lorgat is pretty pathetic....

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

:D:D

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

The issue is not whether Salman Butt should be a pundit on TV or not. The issue is should he even be thinking of such a role so soon after being shamed by ICC and esp when there is still the small matter of a British court case hanging over his head. It shows a complete lack of any *sharam *or *aqal *on his part. I would have been ok with him seeking such a job 12 months down the line.

And Decent, there are certain accepted societal norms. As an example surfing the net - cricinfo, hotmail etc. - during office hours while it maybe discouraged or even prohibited by certain companies is not a crime in my book so long as it does not impact on your actual work. Stealing from the office on the otherhand most definitely isn't normal behaviour. It is a criminal act. You can't equate the two

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

Lets agree to disagree.

There is no way someone can browse for lets say 30 min and still not effect his work. Every min someone is paid for should be used in office work. Now only because this has become "norm" we dont consider this a crime or wrong least to say.

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

What? Crime? Dude. Get a grip. Surfing the web at work is not a crime. I suggest a quick lookup the dictionary of what a CRIME means.

Every employer knows that their employees are doing some personal browsing at work. Most upper management is OK with it. My boss walks in my office and sees Cricinfo open I don't even bother minimizing it.

Management and HR both understand that nobody can work constantly for 8 hours without any personal break. Some personal browsing in the day is actually refreshing and GOOD for employees.

Noway is the above against the LAW or a CRIME.

Comparing it to spot/match fixing and betraying your country is absolutely senseless.

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

^ True. Also there is something called a Tea or Lunch break :D

Re: ICC investigates Salman Butt TV deal

^ in some cases smoke break :smokin:
