I’d really appreciate you ladies helping me in getting my “thoughts” straight regarding my bridal outfit. BTW, this is the only pic I have…if anyone has any more pics of this dress…PLEASE post it.
What do you ladies think? I want something that’s classic/timeless. Is this a bad idea for someone who’s only 5 feet? My “figure” is the same shape as the models (ie. super petite). But I’m much shorter..lol. I will probably wear 2-3 inch heels.
Please keep in mind this would be for the main reception…and there will be a lot of dancing after dinner(hence the short heels!).
Modifications ideas:
I thinking of making the sleeves shorter…probably little above the elbows. I want the mehendi to go all the way upto the elbows and I feel the long sleeves will cover it all up. Would that look ok?
I want to have the dupatta on my head the entire night…but also want to dance…lol. Should I make the dupatta lighter than the pic? Or looking a the picture, would that dupatta stay on my head despite a few hours of moving around/dancing?
Thoughts on the skirt? Should I keep the little embellishment in the front or make the whole thing plain gold?
Anyone have any idea what would be a reasonable price for something like this? Obviously not ordering it straight from designer…

Wouldn’t know but you should contact trusted GS designers in the bazaar section like catwalk, prototype, and cyma maybe even sairaji and stylobabe**

Thanks!!! :)
sweet_lil_hunnie: Yes, this is pretty traditional. I didn't want something that people would look at years from now and think "Oh that was in style back then"...lol. Good ideas on the dupatta! This weekend, I plan on visiting some local stores that a trusted Guppan recommended locally and will take pics of this to see what they say. :)

That is just lovely, Paheli00...definitely a classic piece. I agree with all your points, but I do love the sleeves just the way they are. With regards to the dupatta, how about chiffon? It's lightweight and flowy and you can still add the border etc.

Thanks! I really don't know anything about "materials". I e-mailed a local vendor that does replicas....she e-mailed me a price and wrote some about the materials. She wrote it'll be "material is jamawer silk for sharara, the shirt is pure raw silk and the dupatta is 600 grm chiffon"..........does this sound right to you?
Anyone know what she means by "600grm chiffon"? Is that a "measuring" took for the dupatta? Is "jamawer silk" and "pure raw silk" quality materials for a bridal?
Re: I think I have my dream dress.... Thoughts on modifying this?
Its gorgeous! I just think the border on the duppatta has a bit too much kaam ? it would be better if it was a bit thin since the shirt is filled with embroidery
Re: I think I have my dream dress.... Thoughts on modifying this?
my biggest piece of advice is to make sure the dupatta is light!!!! You want to wear it so that you s tand out from the crowd but if it is too heavy, it can get in the way of dancing and also ... it can give you a headache :( I thought my dupatta was light because I had only one side that was heavy and the other 3 were lighter... but it was still too heavy in regards to dancing. After our first dance at the beginning of the walima reception - I had to ask my sister for 2 advils :( My dupatta was also made of chiffon ..... its just the kaam that makes it heavy.
Keep the kaam on the front of the lehngaa if your budget allows it, otherwise if it does not , then i think you can get away with getting rid of it since the shirt is sooo heavy :)
Re: I think I have my dream dress.... Thoughts on modifying this?
Thank you soooo much for all the info! You guys have no idea how much all this helps with my anxiety...lol.
Prototype: As a professional, what are your thought on the materials for the outfit? "jamawer silk for sharara, the shirt is pure raw silk and the dupatta is 600 grm chiffon" If you were making this bridal, would you choose these materials?
PunjabiRose & Outlandish: Thanks! That's my biggest decision at this point. I will spend majority of the reception walking around and dancing....so I definitely need something elegant BUT light enough to be comfortable. I guess when I visit the store, I can see some of the bridal dupattas in person just to get a "feel" for the weight. :)
Re: I think I have my dream dress.... Thoughts on modifying this?
Try putting some of those dupattas on your head Paheli!!! And then walk around with it. They will give you and idea of their weight and what you will be able to tolerate. Its because you have all this backcombing and your hair is usually pinned up.... the dupattas weight pulls at your hair which is what makes it painful. When sitting its no big deal .. but walking around alot and especially dancing... it becomes a big (annoying) deal. Make sure your hair is very securely pinned ... you dont want it to fall apart due to the dupattas weight and you dancing around. Mine stayed up ...thank god. But truth is that at one point when my husband dipped me, the dupatta did almost fall off due to its weight. It was annoying and even though everyone thought it was a "cute" moment... bc hubby immediately fixed the dupatta himself... i am not a fan of that moment. haha.

Pretty dress, i'd keep the motif on the bottom and keep the kaam heavy on one side of the dupatta (the side that drapes your face) and the other sides fairly light. I'd also shorten the kameez as well.

Awwww....sorry but that sounds adorable! :) Yep...I also want to do a "dip" during our 1st dance. Let's see. Good idea on "trying" on the dupattas at the store to see just how heavy they are. :)

Thanks! How much would you shorten the kameez by? Knee length?
Re: I think I have my dream dress.... Thoughts on modifying this?
There are some images of this dress posted on face book. On sabs salon page.
I looked on their page but didn't see it....maybe I missed it? If you come across them again...could you PLEASE post the links here or PM them to me? Thanks! :)
lovely dress....but i was a little sad when you said you were not ordering the original :( good luck!
Thanks! I'm also a little sad that I don't have a designer budget...but oh well......heck I'm super sad about that fact that I can't have many things that I'd love b/c of $$....but oh well...that's part of life. I need to work with what I got.... :)
