I smell roses!

Anybody in here smell roses?

Thats right, I am talking about Texas vs USC Rosebowl National Championship game on December 6, 2006.

I predict a Texas victory, USC is not the same force as it once was.

Re: I smell roses!

Yawn. If Notre Dame plays OSU in the Fiesta that will get a bigger draw than the Rose Bowl Game.

Re: I smell roses!

Keep dreaming friend!

Texas and USC are the two most winingist programs in the nation and the two best team by a long shot.
Both Notre Dame and OSU are good teams but they both lost to USC and Texas this year.

Re: I smell roses!

What?

Reggie Bush made a strong Heisman Trophy statement tonight, ran for a career-high 294 yards on 23 carries and scored twice, leading No. 1 USC to a wild 50-42 victory over No. 16 Fresno State.

Vince Young is a great player, and Texas is a great team. But my god, Reggie Bush is in a class of his own. Best college player I’ve seen (only 19 though I am…)

Re: I smell roses!

Look at how many close games USC have survived compared to Texas (only against OSU)
USC is a star studded team but they are not the same force as they were last year.

Re: I smell roses!

If you win by a point or a TD, it don't matter. A win is a win and close win shows how great a team like SC can be when challange.

Re: I smell roses!

Umair, wake up and smell the coffee dude. Dream is over :D

Barring any upset from cross-town rival UCLA, during the last game of the season on Dec 3, I dun see anyone that can stop USC and Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and Lendale White.

Re: I smell roses!

Notre Dame stopped USC but the officials thought otherwise. :)

Anyways, I predict Texas 14 point favorites.

Re: I smell roses!

Ball went out of bound, hence, the clock should have been stopped but it ran out. Officials made the right call.

Re: I smell roses!

After watching the annihlation of Colorado and decapitation of UCLA, it is going to be one heck of a matchup.
Both have great offenses, Texas has a great Defense, USC's defense has been shaky this year and have allowed mediocore teams like Stanford, Fresno State, Arizona to score so cheap points.

It will be all about who plays better defense!

Re: I smell roses!

^ yes but your longhorns wont be able to stop reggie bush still

Re: I smell roses!

Get ready you Calees, you are in for a whoppin'

Re: I smell roses!

Forgive me for saying USC by two TDs. I've bought into the hype of USC's opponent every year for 3 years now and every year USC runs away with the game. They've got the best player in the nation (IMO) in Bush, a great QB and decision maker in Leinart, a great OL that allows little to no pressure and opens gaping holes for #5 to run through, and weapons all over the field. I''m not even taking into account a guy like White who would start for all but 7-8 teams in college football. They can simply turn it on whenever they need to on offense. They "flip a switch" and you're suddenly down by 3 TDs. USC's defense might not be a top ten unit but they're far better than average. They are 39th in total defense, not great but not horrendous, especially when you consider the offenses that USC faces week in and week out. Look at how many great offenses they've played this year? Hawaii, Oregon, Washington St., Notre Dame, Fresno St., and UCLA are all among the top 30 teams in total offense in the country. Hawaii, Oregon, Washington St., and Notre Dame all have top 15 units. Most of these teams pass the ball all over the field so it isn't shocking to see USC's pass defense rank #75 in the nation. Texas, on the other hand, has faced two top 30 units.

Most of the teams on their schedule rank in the 80s and 90s in total offense. I guarantee you that Texas would not rank in the top ten if they faced the offenses that USC has to face week in and week out. USC actually has a better run defense statistically than Texas but part of the reason for that is the fact that Texas faces better running teams. Still, they've been run on 408 times this season so it's not like teams just give up running the ball on them after they get down. They've been reasonably tested. I'm not trying to minimize UT's accolmplishments in any way. I know that they have a terrific defense. They're strong, they're fast, they're deep. They're terrific. I just think people are taking USC's defense for granted. This may not be an all time great defense but they are still a force to be reckoned with. They've got great athletes all over the field. They are very quick up front and can generate an excellent pass rush with just four players. They've got fast LBs that fly to the ball and play as oversized safeties in coverage. Their CBs can be picked on a little but you have to have the right QB and WRs to take advantage of them. The safeties also make up for any weakness at CB. Young has had a great year but this USC team will force him to get away from his strengths (running the ball and throwing when he wants to) by establishing an early lead. They'll try to turn Young into a passer and then they'll unleash hell on him by giving him different coverages and bringing pressure from different parts of the field. This is why USC leads the nation in takeaways. They force teams to play at a faster pace then they'd like to and then they take advantage of their miscues.

USC by at least 2 TDs.

Re: I smell roses!

I dun wanna make any score predictions. I just wanna see a competitive game.

USC will make history by winning the 3rd title in a row. Although Im impressed with Vince Young and he definitely has a chip on his shoulder after not winning the Heisman. He has something to prove in the Rose Bowl.

Re: I smell roses!

Couple of upsets yesterday,

Wisconsin over Auburn
West Virginia over Georgia
OSU over Notre Dame

Eventhough the last one wasn't really an upset, it just goes to show you that OSU (btw lost to Texas) was a much better team then the Fighting Irish (almost beat USC)

Re: I smell roses!

WV and Georgia game was entertaining. The fake punt in the end by WV sealed the game. It was well fought-out game..

Btw, the rain has cleared away in Southern Cali, the sun is out today and its gonna be a beautiful day tomorrow at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena.

Re: I smell roses!

Its turning out to be an incredible battle! :k:

Re: I smell roses!

This is the first time I have been impressed by anyone named Bush!

Re: I smell roses!

Umiar, where you at bwoy?

Re: I smell roses!
