Specificatons i need:
Widescreen: 15"+ (the larger the better)
Space: 320 GB +
RAM: 4gb or more
Price: Almost rs. 40,000
Webcam: YES
Looks: The top should be glossy (black shiny) & fancy attractive looking is a plus!
There isnt much of technical stuff that needs to be done, maybe some QA tools added .. the rest is all going to be time passers like FB, GS, net surfing, watching movies, using skype, chat etc.

I’m a big fan of Lenovo thinkpads. They are really good devices with good support and last a long time. I’m still using my Lenovo Thinkpad T60P that is four years old now. It has a dual core proc and 4 GB RAM, a 16 inch wide screen display and a discreet mobile video card. My employer buys me a new laptop every three years, when I was up for a new one, I opted to save them the money and try to eek out another 2 years out of this one and have had no issues.

Oh ive had a horrible experience with Lenovo’s laptop. I used it for 3 years & was a head ache many a times so i quit that option.

your budget is a bit on the lower side. Hope you are willing to look for Core 2 duo processors. cuz its unlikely you will find i3 or i5 processors in that range.
And btw, new or used?

Your choices will include the following:
HP G6
Dell 15R
Toshiba C655/L655
Avoid Gateway. It will come with all sorts of goodies, but you will not be pleased with the build quality and overall support. Gateway=e-Machines. Acer is anoter so-so company.

There is no way you’ll get a Mac under $900, even on sale. Unless you get it used, which kind of defeats the purpose of dropping $500.

buy from DELL…their service is great and their warranties are excellent…they come to your home and fix ur computer…for FREE! … YES, parts and service is FREE…every part of the comp is COVERED except the battery!

She is in Pakistan though. I think Dell will not have that kind of service and warranty in Pakistan.

I know you are in Pakistan, but I just bought a Gateway (sorry Teggy) laptop (NV55c) for $550 (actually got the floor model for $500) with i5 and 6 GB ram (upgraded to 8 GB), 500 GB drive and a lovely screen. This was at MicroCenter, in case there are others here looking for laptops.

My brother has close connections with Dell’s vendors here in Pakistan. I might be able to get an original with the services. So suppose my range is Rs. 40k - Rs. 50k which Dell one is closest to my specs?

And I am not opting for second hand ones. Why I am not going for an even expensive one is that my career is going to kind of stop in a few months time so I dont want to invest so much in a laptop which I have to use for Microsoft Office, FB, GS, emailing, movies & songs etc. .. basically for entertainment purposes, there isnt going to be a lot of technical throughput of that laptop so might as well go for a perkier one

You can have mine :pI have a Packard Bell TJ68. It’s all of the above what you need plus its slick it comes in red & white or black all over.Plus its within your price range. And do you have to get it from pakistan, why not order it online and deliverd to a verified address in Pakistan. This way you don’t get all the cheap China ka maal.

I am not sure how reliable this online selection & delivering would be for me. I’d like to see the laptop actually before buying it. There are many user friendliness issues i have with laptops so I’d prefer using it before buying it.

Are you in Pakistan or INdia because there is the Rs price. One of the reasons people buy Macs is because of the Apple store, so I don’t think there is much of that in Pakistan or India as far as Apple stores go, hence you don’t see Apple cracking into top 5 in PC market share unlike in the US.
