I am soo frustrated, its been 2 months I have been trying to get a job but am not able to. I got a job offer and then next day the lady calls and says sorry we had to terminate the position… how sad is that.

I live near DC metro area, have a bachelors degree and worked in a hospital on the web team. Have taken oracle DBA course… would like to get something in IT so I can eventually be a DBA.

Please advice. What can I do to get a job in this economy? I have to have a job soon…

Any recruiters in the house??? :frowning:

Did you post your resume’ at dice.com, orajobs.com, monster.com, careerbuilder.com, kellyit.com, and many other job related sites ?
Some with little description from an article in about.com

Another big site with tons of results and features.
CISSP Job Search
Job search tool for CISSP and other information technology professionals.
Dice
One of the largest job sites for IT professionals. Gives hundreds of results for “certification”.
FlipDog
This one is unique. They gather postings directly from the employer’s page and will email a text resume through the employer’s site.
Guru
If you are a Guru in your area of expertise, than this is the job board for you. You will find thousands of IT-related jobs.
IT Associations
From ITJobs.com, view a long list of Professional

ITClassifieds
Another job board for the IT world. It yields fewer, but very targeted results.
ITJobs
This is a smaller site but is aimed directly at the IT industry.
JobServe
This is a good site for all jobs, but there is a specific area for IT. You can type your certification in as search criteria in the “Skills” field and get good results. A search for MCSE in Dallas returned 12 job postings.
Monster
It’s definitely a monster of a site. A quick search for “certification” resulted in more than 5000 hits.
Techies
The name says it all. Although its smaller than Dice, if you are a techie, you can find a job here.

Make sure you go utilize the resources suggested above and more… also try contacting job agencies in your area - usually, for entry-level IT jobs, agencies tend to be an efficient route.

Aisha aunty ..getiing a job as DBA or junior DBA is tough coz in every company the count for developers will be more than DBA's. In my earlier project the ratio was 10:1. Dont restrict yourself to DBA only.
BTW are you oracle certified?

I don’t want to talk about it… :teary2: Company terminated the position (lost the contract) , or atleast that’s the excuse they gave me… how sad it that? :frowning:

I am in similar scenario. Been ages since I've had a job. I have decided on a career now mind you. political lobbyist.

really you dont have a job?

Even I was unemployed for 1 year and trust me that was the worst year of my life. I thought of becoming a drug dealer or underworld don.

I am just out of grad school. No job, and in this recession it will be hard to find one. i am looking into internships, or indeed, crime. :D

You might want to think about relocating if its an options for you. There are quite a few jobs in Dallas and Houston these days.

I agree. My company of 43000 only has a handfull of DBA's. Usually they will look for people who can do database admin and programming.

better do masters (if money is not a constraint) . Sittle idle wont be good.

I have no idea about public affairs but you can loo for job into event management/ublic administration. I guess these jobs are in rise these days.

wow..seems like im not the only one. I myself am in DC and have been unemployed for about 6 months now. Im an OCP and its IMPOSSIBLE to find entry-level job as an Oracle DBA. Now, im looking to learn SQL Server or even Informatica. The idea of System Administration also comes to mind. I just dont know what to do n where to go..."FRUSTRATED"

well i was born and raised in bhopal and spend 23 years over there. was working in Bangalore before landing here.
