i met Imran Khan...i asked him a question...and i am Dissapointed :(

What are you saying Zobia? That we shouldnt have good leaders because we arent good as a qaum? Good being honest and bad being corrupt etc.

A good leader can bring out the best in a less than perfect qaum... A good leader is an 'exceptional' person... and not your everyday Joe who wouldnt mind filling his pockets if he got the opportunity. As a whole, yes the qaum is pathetic, and so are the leaders (being not even average I reckon)... but there are gems out there... and just because we as a whole are corrupt and havent got our acts together, you cant say that we dont deserve a corrupt leader, or that we shouldnt hope for one. We can still do with a gem... who can bring out the best in the qaum.

Imran In my opinion isnt your average man, he's exceptional in the sense that hes an optimist and believes things can be changed, and leads by example... he isnt kidding when he says he has enough to retire and have a nice relaxed life,,, yet hes there coping abuse and dhakkay in the sun just so he could somehow bring some change... He doesnt think like your average leader 'oh, jaisi qaum waisay leader... no one cares, or will know... so lets fill up the pockets.

Now if he has some deficiencies when it comes to being a shrewd politician, he's learning. As a person and as far as his intentions go... he is tops. In my opinion anyway.

Re: i met Imran Khan...i asked him a question...and i am Dissapointed :(

I thought zobia was doing a good job at keeping the nay sayers at bay. But I need to say something. :)

Last year when I was living in Ontario, all happy that it’s my home now, I used to hear Imran speeches and I knew he is a true leader. He talked the right things and I want to listen and believe. At that time if you have asked me I should have said the same thing what all this expatriates in this thread are saying making IK the best and perfect in our present political breed. How wrong I was as usual. I sent a letter to the international coordinator of Tehreek Insaaf to let me help in what way I can to spread the message of IK policies to the Canadian public. Atleast it will help him to get the donation that his party needed. He told me that he has no manifesto to give me. Ok I asked him who is the President of the Canadian chapter so I can meet him; he said he is just nominating him. I don’t know about you guys, this is laughable because his party was in existence for 11 years. And 11 years it’s a long time in politics to set up a party.

I said ok, I need so much to believe in IK. I love Pakistan and I thought IK could do the job. Something drastic happened in my life and I have to leave for Dubai and then Pakistan. I told the international coordinator and asked him I am going back to Pakistan and give me contacts in Lahore. He gave me the name of Lahore president and sectary general of Lahore for Tehreek Insaf. Actually he sent my email to the sectary general and we emailed quite often trying to discuss the issues of party and I gave him some suggestion. Some suggestions I gave him:

  • For God’s sake make a party manifesto in easy read form so people around the world and in Pakistan can understand it.
  • Why you haven’t have a president of international chapters and this time getting job done with international coordinator
  • If you want party to play a role keep the IK tell current affairs programs to let others leaders of his party speak
  • IK seat in Mianwali is assured but he needs 120 seats more to have a true impact on the nation
  • If he needs donations for his party he has to ask for it not for Shaukat Khanum and the new college he is opening in Mianwali

He listen to me and he assured me that will happen. I went to Pakistan finally and after meeting the president of Lahore, sectary general and president of gulberg and they jointly nominated me the president of my area. What I saw was a shock to me, IK has just got 4 billion rupess for his cancer hospital and the college in Mianwalli and he even don’t have district offices for his party in main city of Lahore. Is he is serious or he has no clue about how to run his party which is already in shambles.

Re: i met Imran Khan...i asked him a question...and i am Dissapointed :(

cont.

Again I said its ok, I want to believe in IK because I have written about him since last 10 years and there is too much at stake. To cut the story short, I don’t want you guys bored with my account. I made his district office or tried to do it. But then I got two calls and one to one meeting. In Cantt. area there is one national assembly seat and two provincial seats. I got a call for the national seat contentder Air Marshall (name withheld) who told me the district office I have chosen (which was offered to us free of charge by the party activist) was not right and we want a office in Walton so call this party activist and ask him to arrange the office in Walton. This party activist runs a school and he could not afford an expensive district office in Walton. Then one of provincial seat holder who is also the sectary information of Punjab had a sitting with me. I asked him you have to go with me to ask our area people whats their problem so we can make sure Tehreek Insaaf cares about and will do everything to relieve their problems. It helps greatly to win seats. And he (the IK nominated sectary general of Punjab) was so non committal that he rather tried to run out of the office rather then listening to me.

I talked with the sectary general about all this, he told me very informative thing, he told IK asked them to stand in 2002 elections too, both got their zamanate zabth. And IK also wants them to stand in 2008 elections. It was not the judges issue that IK didn’t run the 2008 election, he didn’t run because his party ka aisa hi hashar hota jo 2002 me hua.

Again lets see what is happening in Pakistan, people are laughing at IK. He tries to remain outside the country to pick up the charity of his hospital and college. Yes I saw a picture of him in geo tv, on right side of Punjab president (zamanat zabt in 2002) and right side sectary information which had chit chat with me (again zamanat zabth in 2002, I think he got less then 300 votes). I have so much to tell you why a man look good from a distance, just like a country look good from a distance.

zobia, my post, was not about IK but those people around us who are not famous like Imran Khan but in a position to make a differance but they dont.

I was referring to IK only where I meantioned about him.

But I still think he is a good motivator. He might not be a 'perfect' leader (who is a 'perfect' leader in Paki politics, anyway??) but he does have many leadership qualities. He can be excellent in leading people in other fields than poilitics (especially paki politics)...... maybe in education sector.

Hey zobia, good job, good post....

these celebrities types , are revered and followed by people sometimes, without even being put through rigorous/grinding and neccessary questioning by the public that follows them...and there's basically no public engaging and serious rigorous questioning of the principles associated with such a celebrity policitian....

not just imran khan, but unfortunately many other other politicians in our country are never really put through rigorous questioning........exactly the same type of scenario , for politicians who are descendants of previously popular politicians, jinko politics viraasat mein milti hei.... party unhien aisee hei uthaa leti hei, sar aankhon pe charhaa leti hei...without even putting the descendant through a rigorous dialogue of any sort about their own Personal principles and policitical merits, and views....

like u more ppl should be willing to question, listen, and then weigh the situation ...instead of being overpowered by the so called "charisma" or "popularity" of a person like Imran khan resulting from the celebrity and history that he has had....

i only read zobia’s first post and few other early posts before posting my response … and after posting my response, read a few more posts, and do have some more to say to zobia … (by the way still havent read all the posts so don’t know if missed some other important turns the discussion took)…but zobia
beta, your question was good, yes it took a lot of confidence for you to ask the question in front of 400 ppl or what not but don’t assume others have not done the same sor of thing at some point in some other way about some other issue they felt important…

also, i dont know what you are studying, but i have a feeling you have not majored in physics, or not yet atleast, so if people are sort well whats the word, informing you /correcting you, about Newton’s law don’t take offense, just listen quietly…and move on… u might understand their point later on…
newton’s law applies to mechanics, and its a physical law, and ppl who have loved and studied science like true scientists, know the scientific method, are offcourse gonna comment on your really broad and sort of personal way of using the law to frame your question… as a science enthusiast i can say it doesn’t apply, but ok fine you used it as you saw fit to frame your question while thinking on your feet in front of ppl, thats fine by me,

that doesnt mean u should hold on to that example so tight and try to defend it so harshly when other ppl comment on it…you are afterall posting on a public forum, so be prepared to hear from other people what they have to say (about which ever point of your post they want) who are just as intelligent as u, but are bringing different take or view point about different aspects, layers, of your post.

anyways good post…
