I just don't get it....

…we let Davis go.

Then we demand an apology on the Drone attack that killed 45 people. After that we summon the American Ambassador and tell him we are pulling out of the Tripartite meeting. After which the PAF takes to the skies around the Tribal Areas to shoot down the Drones.

Following from all of that the Tribal groups in North Waziristan declare War on the US.

This smacks of an operation that happened last year in Afghanistan. The Afghan government was making headway with a Taliban group to get them to reconcile. All of a sudden special forces came in the night before the agreement and killed them all.

The question is what was happening that Jigra in North Waziristan that the US had to strike it with 3 drones.

Re: I just don't get it....

i dont think americans should apologize, as this was one of the three hundred odd drone strikes carried out by them! nothing new, as far as our govt is concerned they will make some noises and then life will continue as normal

Re: I just don't get it....

Not in this case. This is the first time the PAF has taken to the skies to protect Pakistan. We didn't even do this when Army troops were killed by an American helicopter.

Re: I just don’t get it…

yes but still i think this is a dramay baazi, the army and isi could have gotten some concessions from the americans during the davis saga but they got nothing, its only a matter of days when the americans will carry another drone strike. As far as PAF is concerned they have been saying all along that they are not able to stop drones, but if they can stop them what took them so long to try counter them?

This is 2009’s news, so has our army now developed the guts to fight against nato and us forces?

I dont think so, they couldnt keep one CIA man in Pakistan and they want us to believe them that they will try countering drones. They should cut this out and prepare for the next assault on NWA. Could be why the airforce is in Fata again

Re: I just don't get it....

Peace in Afghanistan without having a new war front can cause severe damage to American War Industry... this is one explanation...

2nd, it can be a joint drama by ISI and CIA, where ISI may have asked CIA for a drone attack, just to create dust to hide/burry Raymond Davis case under it...

Re: I just don't get it....

well the americans are very skillfully creating a situation in which the people have starting to get frustrated with their own army, this is very alarming if the army thinks about that as it could lead to a full blown civil war if we keep up our reputation as american mercenaries...maybe the airforce deployed in FATA will ultimately be used in the operation in NWA which is the next target set for our army by their american masters...

Re: I just don't get it....

^^ are our army and leadership is naive enough to fall for it...

Unless Air-force and Army take some concrete steps to counter these drones, no statement from Kiyani would satisfy the masses... as most in Pakistan believes that it was Army who let Raymond go and to allowed US to attack by using drones...

Re: I just don't get it....

yes statement has finally come after 300 odd drone attacks, besides the nato containers are still crossing over to the Americans and its not clear if the Americans are still using the bases within Pakistan to fly these drones? the army is cheating its own people for a long time now if they believe that the drones are good for Pakistan they should come out into the open and support them publicly now!

This misra sums up 'Pak' Army: Saaf chupte bhi nahin saamne aate bhi nahin

Re: I just don't get it....

A revolution is on its way, and with the current reputation of the Army, even army won't be able to stop it... i hope new leadership emerges from the people and no planted leader comes out of it...

Feinstein comment on U.S. drones likely to embarrass Pakistan

The Predator planes that launch missile strikes against militants are based in Pakistan, the senator says. That suggests a much deeper relationship with the U.S. than Islamabad would like to admit.

**February 13, 2009|Greg Miller

A senior U.S. lawmaker said Thursday that unmanned CIA Predator aircraft operating in Pakistan are flown from an air base in that country, a revelation likely to embarrass the Pakistani government and complicate its counter-terrorism collaboration with the United States.**

The disclosure by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, marked the first time a U.S. official had publicly commented on where the Predator aircraft patrolling Pakistan take off and land.

At a hearing, Feinstein expressed surprise over Pakistani opposition to the campaign of Predator-launched CIA missile strikes against Islamic extremist targets along Pakistan’s northwestern border.

“As I understand it, these are flown out of a Pakistani base,” she said.

The basing of the pilotless aircraft in Pakistan suggests a much deeper relationship with the United States on counter-terrorism matters than has been publicly acknowledged. Such an arrangement would be at odds with protests lodged by officials in Islamabad, the capital, and could inflame anti-American sentiment in the country.

The CIA declined to comment, but former U.S. intelligence officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information, confirmed that Feinstein’s account was accurate.

Philip J. LaVelle, a spokesman for Feinstein, said her comment was based solely on previous news reports that Predators were operated from bases near Islamabad.

“We strongly object to Sen. Feinstein’s remarks being characterized as anything other than a reference” to an article that appeared last March in the Washington Post, LaVelle said. Feinstein did not refer to newspaper accounts during the hearing.

Many counter-terrorism experts have assumed that the aircraft take off from U.S. military installations in Afghanistan and are remotely piloted from locations in the United States. Experts said the disclosure could create political problems for the government in Islamabad, which is considered relatively weak.

The attacks are extremely unpopular in Pakistan, in part because of the high number of civilian casualties inflicted in dozens of strikes.

The use of Predators armed with Hellfire antitank missiles has emerged as perhaps the most important tool of the U.S. in its effort to attack Al Qaeda in its sanctuaries along the Pakistani-Afghan border. A New Year’s Day strike killed two senior Al Qaeda operatives who were suspected of involvement in the bombing of Islamabad’s Marriott Hotel.

Re: I just don't get it....

you are actually wondering why and why now? that should be pretty obvious. after the embarrassing pimp slap that was the davis release, this is a toothless attempt to project some sense of sovereignty, primarily playing to the domestic audience. also an attempt to reinforce the military's credibility amongst the rabidly anti-american populace.

Re: I just don't get it....

What can the army do? It's a mercenary force hired by the US and Qiyani is just a American puppy.

Re: I just don't get it....

Nonsense. And by the way what is this obsession with the army? ;)

Re: I just don't get it....

As long as it's not happening in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi we are safe and we don't care how many people are dying in Wazirastan.

Re: I just don't get it....

^ sad but true

Re: I just don't get it....

yes the drones are frustrating but why not the Pak army fully cooperate with the US/NATO to eradicate the terrorists so that ther eis no need for drones?

Re: I just don't get it....

*Who is bringing that revolution? JI and its co-harts or IK? Chill my friend. People of Pakistan particularly punjab will never raise against own army. Revolution in middle east is fully supported by Sam where as in case of Pakistan as long as army is an ally to Sam, forget about any kind of revolution. *

Re: I just don't get it....

They are our proxies why would we eliminate them?

Re: I just don't get it....

exactly. So everyone should stop whining about drones right? that is what proxies cost

Re: I just don't get it....

Kyani and government by now know that it is very difficult to get any regret or appology from Sam. Here in America, local news paper says that drones targetted millitants and 40 millitants not innocent civillians were killed. Looks like army and ISI is playing double cross here. I don't know why Sam appologise on killing of so called "terrorists."
