I used military & *civilian *instead of *democratic *unintentionally, but if you insist, lets shed light on that;
Perhaps because I think not all civilian govts have been truly democratic *in Pakistan.
neither have all military govts been *entirely non-democratic in Pakistan.
And yes out of all successful democracies, also shed some light on the public's rationality, freedom to decide at grass root & rural level and level of literacy...
I have stated the reason few times why I give the opposition and CJ equal blame. They knew they might be playing with fire and it wasnt just their hands at stake, their fire games burnt the public.
I have always condemned what's wrong.
And yes, ideally the people should decide.
But why are the ppl always wrong in deciding? And once they decide, they are too quick in changing the decision and going fully in the other direction...unfortunately that doesnt show a very highly rational national behavior...
You have blamed opposition for Karachi Mayhem, while we all saw that MQM took control of the city, rangers and police were spectators and they killed nearly 40 opposition workers. Even Musharraf has laid the blame on opposition and exonerated MQM, in his interview yesterday on AAJ. If you blame the victim how it is not supporting the offender?
You have not opposed wrong doings of MQM and Musharraf.
What i feel is that let the people decide whom they want to vote for and whom they want to be ruled by. The establishment and state machinery has no right to impose their own rule. If they are so sincere in getting rid of corrupt politicians they shud bring them to court, rather than doing shady deals and using courts to blackmail them for extending military rule.
There's a change of direction of lawyers' protest - before May 11, they were bashing Mushraaf, army and ISI, now they are chanting anti MQM and Mushraaf slogans only!
May 12 carnage was done in the mainly army and cantt area where there is no such example of violence in the past 60 years of Karachi's history. I think army and isi deliberatley kept a blind eye from whatever mqm and sindh governement did on that day.
The ISI achieved two objectives - punished the people who were bashing army. Now they can remove Mushraaf any time and take action against MQM showing that they are the only people who can control menace of MQM. And in the end we will see continuation of military rule in Pakistan.
^It happened in Cantt/Military areas is a revelation to me...
Some riots and killings were in Malir; not Malir Cantt but Malir City. They are diff places, although neighboring each other. Malir Cantt is a high security military area while Malir city is just another town in thew city of Karachi. Rest of the killings were at Guru Mandir, Shahra-e-Faisal and few other areas.
Main killings were done at Malir Halt - close to it we have the headquarters of Bhittai rangers within 100 yards. Then at the COD bridge - there we have all the three forces - army, navy and air force.
These places are not in Malir Cantt. They are near Faisal Base on SharaeFaisal. COD and the Naval installations are static. There was no curfew or war and not all military installations were on law and order/security duty.
As for the Bhittai Rangers HQ, like you even I'm not sure why they didn't take control...
Rangers and Police had given a free hand to Muttahida terrorist to make sure no one gets to the airport on 12th May, I wish a judicial inquiry is held and all those responsible are charged with murder. This was all done with the assurance and support of Musharraf. He was enjoying bhangra and music in his lackluster show in Islamabad when 35 people were already dead on the streets of karachi, any sane person would have kept the tone down. I am amazed at his supporters who come up with ingenious reasons for supporting him. Atleast now he has declared openly that he will use extraconstitutional means to hold on to power, yet people will still praise him
