---I hate Basant............:(---

A three year old girl child named Mahnoor been killed by the string of a kite while she was riding on the motorbike along with her parents.

The string cutted her throat and she died at the spot. Her parents couldnot do anything.:hinna: I hate Basant at the bottom of my heart. I dont know how people find entertainment in this waste of money and time, and now the loss of lives.:frowning: What was she guilty of?

Please people take pitty on others. Our ministers cant understand this situation as they dont ride motorbikes. They have cars and their children are safe.:hinna: Only the poor die due to such reasons. They have to pay the wage of Entertainment of some poeple.:hinna:

This is not our festival at all. Its Hindus festival and let them celebrate it. Please, live and let live.

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

I used to love flying kites when i was in Pakistan. But then I saw ppl getting injured really badly and her news that many would die on this festive day. I was discouraged from then on and have never flew a kite again. I am tottaly against the practice of celebrating basant. That poor girl didn't have a choice, I feel sorry for her.
Oh, those memories.....

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

Very sad. Stronger enforcment against kite wire is needed. Regular kite flying with string is safe and family friendly.

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

UTD but dont u think that this "normal" string can be dangerous too. Because if the kite is either pulled or let go quickly, it could do some serious damage.

Kite flying should be banned. So many lifes and damage is done due to this tradition.:(

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

She died by the normal string. Due to wire we have to suffer loss of electricity so many times a day. Also the loss of lives.

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

It was banned by the Court this year but govt of Lahore got approval for 15 days festival. Tell me, in those 15 days, will no one suffer such things? Mahnoor death is an evident.

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

do people in Indua die too due to kite flying?

Basant is a great event for Lahore.. it should be allowed on only one day.. and people can take precautions on the particular day while going out.. metal / chemical strings cause most of the property and life damage..

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

^ thats ignorance at its best. It is like saying - drag racing should be allowed for 1 night, and people should take "pre-caution" that night.

Please, THINK before you post.

Just to satisfy fun factor for few ignorant people, killing few and damaging millions of worth of property is okay for you...

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

ignorance!! I live in lahore and celebrated and enjoyed basants all my life.. how about ur experience? I thought well before writing u do that as well please..

and few are millions in lahore and thousands and thousands who flock to Lahore.. vey few people got hurt few years back when there was no wire or chemical strings involved.. excess of every thing is bad.. instead of cursing the most enjoyable family fair in Lahore why not try to make it safe and convenient for public.. scores of people die on Lahore roads due to racing wagons .. but instead of banning them make them obey traffic rules to make safe of people.. should we ban soccer in England since crowd behavoir kill people or cricket on streets of lahore as hundreds die due to traffic accidents..

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

^ you sir are the most foolish person i have met.

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

my dear feeling is mutual .. now thats a coincidence

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

Degas, here are my personal expeireinces.:(

Last year my two fingers of right hand, index and middle fingres were sverely injured due to the string. Thank God they didnot get seperate. They were cutted sharply from the joints. Suppose if I losse my fingers, how I could paint any more?

And my 3 years old cousin died 2 years ago due to Basant, She fell down from 3rd floor while her brothers were flying kites.:(

lol.

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

I agree w/ Degas. Every form of entertainment or sport involves some sort of risk.

I can also say that people should stop driving cars because they cause accidents and loss of life. If there is a history of accidents and deaths occuring due to the kite string then people need to be a bit more careful during the Basant days. Also people who are flying kites should not fly them during rush hours when there is more traffic on the road.

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

In addition to these "few" events of casualties(Shuhda according hinduaism according to bal thackery) no authentic religious scholar has consider basant as allowable festival in islam-
This is according to many reasons-few being
1-Israaf
2-It is hindu tradition and also kite flying on basant first started on the samadhi of haqiqat rai who was sentenced to death on account of blashphemy-

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

itsme you should lock yourself at home and ban internet on yourself. You need to take precautions next thing you know your account gets hacked or you get hit by nia's car. What a scary thought!

Baobihari! We have been arguying over this issue of letting go of hindu culture for a while now. We can't seem to get rid of it i guess we love our hindu brother and sister alot.

we should ban all the sports because there is a chance of death in all of them. I do sort of agree with degas here myself although death of that poor little child has simply no Justification.

Human creatures are amazing we try to find reason behind everything- May be this is how her death was written.

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

Tragic incident of the girl death occured when kite flying was banned in lahore (ban is to be lifted on 25th Feb - 10 March). It was due to some irresponsible idiot..

Basant itself is a north-Indian celebration of Spring. Mostly in Punjab and is nor a hindu or muslim festival but a punjabi one.. guli danda is more a hindu game than kite flying ..celebtrated when the fields are full with mustard-seed flowers. people dress in mustard color clothes and having a good time. its a time when everything is yellow.. time to celebrate coming harvest season..

Re: —I hate Basant…:(—

Accordingly many scholars also believe that mixed-gender electronic communication is haram as well. The concept that strangers essentially Muslim “baaligh” men and women can exchange ideas and post comments via internet (also a very popular hindu tradition) is considered immoral and illicit.

Bao, maybe you need to stop going online and find a better hobby. May I suggest kite flying?

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

I gave this reason

please answer this, warna phir bookata :)

Re: ---I hate Basant............:(---

Absolutely dead wrong ! Can you provide any references to your claim? rather than putting cliams of jahil maulvis who hold everything that is not in arabic culture as hindu or jewish :D

Basant is a festival of Spring and is celebrated mainly in the Indian states of Haryana and Punjab, during February-March and in Punjab in Pakistan for centuries. It is celebrated at the end of winter to welcome spring. 'Basant Ritu' means spring season in Hindi. (nothing to your claim of first starting after the blesphemy!!! Basant is celebrated when mustard fields are in full bloom, giving the impression of yellow carpets laid out on acres of land. People welcome this change of season by wearing yellow clothes, flying kites and having lots of fun.
Now the event you mentioned occured just 100 years back while Spring festival as per all historians is centuries old..

Now a bit of history....

Chinese first used kite to find enemies in 200 BC. Kite flying came out of China into India, Central Asia (and Europe). In India references to kites can be found in fourth century Panchatantra tales (hinduism is thousands years old religion), translated into the Arabic in Kalila wa Dimna. Kites found a sacred and recreational space in the Malay, Pacific Islands, Japan etc. The Turkic and Mongolian influx into the Islamic world made kite-flying into a leisure activity from Cairo to Delhi by the 13th century. However, kite-flying was never a sport for the masses; it was for the indulgence of princes in their marble terraces.

It were the Sufis who brought the festival into the Muslims. By the Mughal period, Basant was a popular festival at the major Sufi *shrines *(refuting your claim that Basant started at the blesphemy). We examples, mentions of Nizam Auliya ki Basant, Khwaja Bakhtiar Kaki ki Basant, Khusrau ki Basant; festivals arranged around the shrines of these various sufi saints. Khusrau, the famous sufi-poet of the thirteenth century, even composed verses on Basant:

Aaj basant mana lay suhagan, aaj basant mana lay
Anjan manjan kar piya mori, lambay neher laga lay
Tu kya sovay neend ki maasi,
so jaagay teray bhaag, suhaagun, Aaj basant mana layÖ..;
Oonchi naar kay oonchay chitvan,
ayso diyo hai banaaye
Shah Amir tuhay dekhan ko, nainon say naina milaaye,
Suhaagun, aaj basant manaalay.

So verses were written well before that blesphemy!!

Bao Bihari.. Basant ay have positive or negative points but slamming it poutright as a hindu thing is wrong..
