Pir Sahib, there is a difference between songs and music…Songs may just be words in praise, like naats. Music on the other hand, is created by instruments, which are haram, (not exactly all).
Instruments which create a tune…(dhun) are haram…others for ex DAFLI, which does not produce a tune is allowed…DAFLI was used during the Prophet’s time on Weddings and other occassions…
There are many things which Islam forbids…many small which we take as granted, things which seem absolutely perfect and harmless, but are forbidden in Islam. Playing chess for ex…Playing chess is HARAM, and is compared to dipping one’s hand in pig’s blood. Interest is another example. Infact interest is much much bigger a crime, than consuming pork or alchohol…both of these are allowed in extreme cases but interest is absolutely haram…compared to commiting ZINA with one’s mother 70 times…Astaghfulrullah…

So a “naat-khwan” is a singer and a naat or a hamd is s song. why dont we refer to them as such. ever tried calling a naat-khwaan a singer, u will get yer azz whooped by him/her and ppl around ya. by this token, the domingos, careeras, and pvarotti are fine since they are tenors, same goes for the operas

Thatlast part i.e. “not exactly” all is exactly my argument… u cant hate “ALL” music even if you have the strictest interpretation of Islam.
