I had my hair permanently straightened.

Gone are the curly locks! Im quite happy. Ive been contemplating this for months and only got it done now because it cost an arm and a leg and I didnt know how sleek, straight hair would look on me. I knew I wanted to have it done in Japan because they came up with the permanent hair straightening thing and are really good at it. It took about 4 hours, I was there from 5pm to 9pm and had 2 guys working on my hair the whole time. First they washed my scalp raw (ouch), then they put lots of chemicals, put me under a machine, washed it out, blow-dried my hair, then used a straightening iron, then they put another chemical in, washed my hair out again, then they gave me a head and shoulder massage and then they blow-dried it straight again. And then they gave me a cut which Im not very pleased with. The dude gave me a haircut which every Japanese girl has - lots of layers with shaggy ends, but its okay I hope it grows out.

If anyone has considered permanently straightening their hair, I say go for it!

I have naturally permanently straight hair already

Allah Ka shukar hay kabhi ghuroor naheeN kiyaa

my hairs dead straight and i hate it :grumpy: the hairdresser told me to be grateful but how can i when i cant get it to curl??

sighz congrats on ure straightened hair catty :k: but wont they grow out curly again?

I would never permanently straighten my hair. I like having the option to leave it wavy. I have a straightener so I just straighten it on those days that I want straight hair.

I had my hair yuko'd too last year, shahreen talked me into it actually. It's so nice to be able to just wash your hair and leave it dry naturally and still have silky smooth hair.
But as Mehnaz says, it's sometimes nice to have the option of leaving your hair wavy.

With curly hair come frizzies which are by no means enviable. Afterall doesn't one get tired of mousses to keep them down?

I never use mousse Femme. I use this stuff by John Frieda. It's a creme that relaxes and "winds down" wavy hair. It works really well. You just put a little in your hair after you wash it and you are set. The frizz effect when it rains or is humid is very minimal.

I am considering having Thermal Reconditioning as well. Here in NYC I've found some smaller Korean salons that start at $300 but I'm sure my hair will be a little more than that since its growing long now. Finer salons are still around $500 +. I usually just brush my hair straight but some days let it curl. Now with a 2 year old and another one Inshallah on the way, I don't want to spend any time on my hair. I'm just worried about old color on my hair and whether it will affect the straightening.

Four hours is really a long time, but I know there's several steps in achieving a good result. I just hope my two year old can last with her dad...we'll see.

but the part of the hair that was not straightened would come out wavy or curly..and it would give the same effect as the black roots that show on so many self declared "natural (pronounced ney-choo-raaal)" redhead pakistani women.

Someone I know did this and said that it was great, till she went to get her hair highlighted and now her hair has really dried out....so if you do one thing try not to do both....

ive never dyed my hair or chemically treated it before, this is the first time and its great now i dont have to blow dry my hair each time i wash it.
mehnaz ive also been using john frieda for the last few years. ive introduced my friends to it too, best products out there. i love the no.5 'secret weapon' finishing cream.

kewl :)

i think id die... or some people might if i even mentioned or thought bout chemically straightening my hair... like Mehnaz i love the option of keeping it curly or straight... my straighting iron is good enuff for me... but i still prefer the lazy curl look...

show us a pic catty!

i got my hair glossified... i got the hair gloss.. damn thing cost me about 100 dollars but since it wasnt permanent it lasted 2 days.. i admit.. i dint sampoo my hair.. it looked to goodd.. n manni look good with jap hair.. but its tooomuchh... for permanent.. its liek 500 buckss,, idont have that kinda money for my hair atleast...
so i been wishin n dyin to buy a chi flat hair iron... it is an investment.. bt does it work????
where is shahreen wen u need her...

im sotempted to get y hair japafied....
ughhhhhhhhh

crying

I don't think you can yuko if you have highlighted hair either. Or maybe it depends on the chemicals used?
Deviliciousss, shahreen's back first week of feb as far as I know.

Gte the chinese or japanese steam straightening irons. My hairdresses use it and it works wonder. The hair look japanese straight with the iron alone! Dont get the lousy Conair ones. They ruin the hair.

humm too late i had a option of buying the steam or the conair as the lady working told me that if i use the wet option it is going to make my hair moist and it is going to go back to its wavyness thats why i chose the normal one :(

and i was afraid as normally straightning iron can not be used on wet hair.....

true if you have done the chemical treatment for first time it should be fine........but when you do it on regrowth make sure the chemicals does not touch the already treated area as it will make them weak and frizzy.......it will still be straight but dry and lifeless if the same hair is treated with chemical couple of time it damage them big time....

My hair is straight but I still blow dry it when I want it really sleek. today I curled it with tongs and it looks great.

Haha catty, I've been thinking about straightening my hair for quite some time too :D

But the things is, I dunno how permanent it's going to be. A friend of mine spent a fortune and it only lasted a couple of weeks! If i wanna get it done, I want it to last for a few months atleast.

Any suggestions for what I should do? Like what exactly to tell the hairdresser n stuff?
