why will my right of selection make them unhappy? if i love my parent, i would find a reasonable way where my wishes and their demands never conflict.

Easier said than done.. Not everyone is lucky enough to have reasonable parents.. some will throw a hissy fit over things like their kid not wanting to marry a cousin.. or a doctor
