ok these messages make me SOOOO mad. I got one and I answered it…not giving any personal info but expressing interest in the whole thing. I want these people to be caught and prosecuted so i will play along until i can give enough info for this to hopefully happen.
Re: I got one of those "millions for you if you help me" mails
hmmm.but I have a pretty good "spaminator" and have not given out any other personal info....so what problem could arise (other than hopefully them getting nailed)?
well, the're scammers & phishing artists, not spammers. So you won't be getting tons of junk emails suddenly.
Once a while if I want to play along, I'd reply back showing my interest. And when they ask for personal contact info and all that, I usually give them the FBI's local office's contact detail. Heck, you can even give them the name of FBI Special Agent assigned to your city for the "Full Name" that these smarties ask for.
I don't know what happens afterwards, but Gosh! I wish these scumbags can be put to eternal rest somehow.

Its exactly the message that I got except the email address is different. The website above had some good suggestions on how to deal with it and some amusing suggestions on how to bog down the scammers, waste their time and their resources and generally make their lives less pleasant lol!
So I amused myself for a little while flooding their mailbox with nonsense and garbage files. And I just MAY give a call (or 100) to their phone number when its like 3 am over there in Cote D’Ivoire.
I also reported them to the email staff for my email as spammers, they’re all blocked now.
Some of you are going to ask “dont you have anything better to do???” Well yeah but these crooks are scum who actually do take the life savings of innocent people and it infuriates me.
ps, I’d love to post the email address of the scammer and let you good folk of gs do a bit more flooding on them…
But not sure if thats a no-no?? Come on Mods! Lets have some fun yeah? Pleez give the green light!
I doubt you can catch them like that. Probably the best you can do is have fun wasting their time (and if you’re creative enough, you can even entertain us while you’re at it). Here’s a nice example:

Re: I got one of those "millions for you if you help me" mails
Dateline NBC did a two part series on the 419 scam by playing along and transferring smaller money amounts just so they could get to the source.
Why waste time with them... just update your spam filters when you receive a new one - otherwise, just one reply will not dissuade them from their ways. The SRB (Spammers Rule of Business) as its termed sometimes is that even if 0.1% response rate and $10 of income per response, they can generate $50K with just 5M emails.
They don't really care if a few people are trying to get them to stop.
