It is not rocket science. If you search in these forum we have posted many many tips for beginners.

i did..but somehow i have a feeling i will burn all the vegetables aur salanz ..plus how much brown the onion needs to be,if the recipe is for the two people what wud i do when i have 5 people coming at my home bla bla…i will be all alone abroad with no help/cook so am scared:bummer:

I don't know where you're from but it's very easy to find beginners' or students' cooking book, even for indian recipes, at a bookstore (WHS Smith etc) they usually give you a list of ingredients and tell what they do so it it would help you understand cooking better.
make sure you get good quality cutlery, alway helpful.

by the way, if you don't know how to make an egg... get one of those cooking rings (i dunno what they're called) and you'll have a perfectly shaped egg

by the way, if you don't know how to make an egg... get one of those cooking rings (i dunno what they're called) and you'll have a perfectly shaped egg

who cooks all the food you eat? before you eat next time go in the kitchen and find out what your actually eating and how its made.

if your smart it wont take long to learn, especially if u eat what you make. then you will understand if you made it right or wrong.

be prepared to make mistakes in the beginning like burning food, burning your self, starting fires, making everyone ill or people refusing to eat your food.

I only knew how to make a few things when I got married (in March), and me and my husband dont even live in the same country as our parents. So I bought a whole bunch of Shan Masala's, looked up a list of Pakistani spices that I should have in the cupboard, and I started looking up recipes online.

When I started looking up recipes on line, I would note down the spices they used, and other ingredients (garlic/ginger paste, onions, tomatoes, green chili, tamarind {imli}, coriander, etc.), and then I made a big shopping list, and went to the halal grocery store, and bought all the spices and other ingredients (along with shan masala packets), meat, vegetables, and daals.

From there, I would decide each day what I was going to make. If I was using the Shan Masala, I would just follow the recipe exactly (but use half the quantity of everything listed, because its only me and my husband), or if I was using an online recipe, I would follow the recipe, but also make modifications based on personal taste and recommendations from others online who have tried the recipe.

There were days when I used too much masala, and the food was too spicy, or too salty, or not salty enough, or I burned the masala, or whatever.....but you know what.....my husband never complained even once! He would eat it, and he would even compliment it, when I myself knew that the food was bad!

Then there is the issue of roti. Where we live, we dont have those frozen ready made roti's (because we only have Arab halal grocery stores). I love chawal and can eat it everyday (I knew how to make perfect chawal before getting married, so I was ok with that), but my husband prefers roti's. So I looked up a video on youtube for making roti. So first I learned how to make the dough, and that came out ok. But when I roll out the dough, even now it doesnt come out as a circle, but my husband eats it, I eat it, and it gets the job done!

There are going to be lots of experiments, but thats how you are going to learn! Practice makes perfect! And make Youtube your best friend! It has amazing recipes! I really like Titli Nihaan's channel, she makes really good food, and is easy to follow!

Chicken Karahi
Meat Masala
Vegetable Masala
Dal Masala

Follow the recipes on the back. There you go!! Soon you’ll be on your own, making new dishes and all

I dont understand why u have to wait to move in order to get started on learning hoe to cook... Recipes, u tube etc ek taraf, personal advice and help from a human being is much better... If ure mil is not worth time of the day.. Why not ask ure mom? Recipes or u tube isnt gonna tell u how red is enough for frying onions or what kinda meat to use for what kinda dish...
