Ok the truth is , I passionately hate onions that are visible in the salan , rice or whatever … ..
so what would you end up doing , if you get invited by someone and the following dishes are on the table:
vegetable dopiaza
four onion risotto
Onion rings
Baked red onions
Salad with raw onions
.. I was so pushed , i seriously wanted to faint … I just ate as slow as I could , and kept going for the mint chutney , which was the only thing aside from coke , on the table , that didnt have onions … and I was THIS close to hitting the host if they brought any onion related dessert
how would you handle the situation ? just eat quietly and never set foot in their home again ???
Oh man.. I am the same way. Although I will eat it, i just don't like it too much. My MIL has floating onions in every single dish coz she thinks that's the way too cook it :(
stardust nope , no other stuff that i could lay my hands on … I just dont like the oniony taste :hinna:
Spiral … god , I so know what you mean … when i went to pakistan for my wedding , i could hardly eat at some places , purely for this reason :floating onions
that was the whole menu? the host needs to join GS to learn the menu for party. :D
When I started cooking, I couldn't get rid of onions in salan (because I didn;t know about masala technique) so I would cook, take out all the gravy, put in blender and run it for 1 minute.. I got rid of the onions but it changed the taste of salan. :-(
Gemini, I used to do that too in the beginning and then curse the blender for changing the salan’s taste … later I realized the little tricks that no one tells
You need the onion treatment!! When I was little my brother and elder sister got so fed up about me avoiding each and everything that had floating onions they locked me in a room and forcefed me 1 whole raw onion!! It was a horrific experience but I started eating onions after that....:D
CB my psycho analysis is that you hate onion because of childhood trauma of thokai by your dad. :D
You need to see a shrink to get closure on that trauma and you will start liking onion like other normal human beings.:)
And here I thought I was the only one who hated onions.... I hate them, with a passion.
So, here's what I do.... I take out the saalan/salad in my plate, then get busy separating the onions and pushing them to the side, my hosts ask you don't eat onions and I say "No, I hate them", they go "Oh" and then I happily eat the rest of the salad (no onions anymore... yayy), shorba and chicken pieces or whatever, minus the yucky onions... works for me :D.
