I can't gain weight!

I am 18 years old. My height is 5’6 and I weight only 93 pounds. I can eat anything and can’t put on a single pound. All my life I have heard people commenting on how skinny I am and like, “Doesn’t someone give you food?”, “You’re like a stick.” and many another hurtful comments. There’s been not a SINGLE person in my life who hasn’t commented on my physique. I hate it. I just can’t gain weight. I tried once and started eating like jungli and after 3 months I gained only 1 kg, I got so frustrated that I quit with my diet and I lost that one kg the next month. lol.
Plus my mom dad both are thin. What should I do? :frowning:

Re: I can't gain weight!

drink date shake or banana shake

Re: I can’t gain weight!

I used to be like that cos of my metabolism.. I would eat and eat junk food and not put on weight.. The aunties would say I was too thin and ask if I eat

Re: I can't gain weight!

lift weights.

Re: I can't gain weight!

@cancerian87: I'll try..
@Deeba1234: So how much do you weigh now? When exactly did you start putting on weight?
@queer: I wish I could do but I don't find that much time to join gym because of my studies lol.

Re: I can't gain weight!

Personally I don't think you need to do anything apart from eat healthily and exercise. I used to be really skinny until a few years ago, at the age of 18 I musta weighed just about 7 stone and looked even skinnier, and I used to eat like anything as well.

Eventually my body 'settled' at a more respectable size and my metabolism slowed down, and now I don't look as bony as I used to. I'm still slim but it just looks a lot better.

Re: I can’t gain weight!

so lift weights at home. if you don’t want to buy weights, lift a couple of cans of soup, one in each hand. you can do any of these with your cans- you would just do more repetitions - How To Lift Weights At Home | LIVESTRONG.COM
no time is not an excuse! make time! and don’t eat junk food, for crying out loud. its better to eat healthy and be strong, than to load up on crap just because you want to put on a few pounds.

Re: I can't gain weight!

poor babes ;(

I get told I'm skinny too but mostly nice comments and no matter how much I eat I can't gain weight every time I buy a pair of jeans they fit me at first then I swim in them.. yay me..
runsaway

Re: I can't gain weight!

^Desis traditionally don't like very slim girls :(

OP, I was just under 100 pounds and am the same height as you.. I'm a little over 120 now.. I still find it weird that all that time I was slim without doing anything and now I want to lose a little bit lol.. My diet habits haven't really changed my metabolism just slowed and it made quite a bit of difference.. I noticed it at 24ish..

Re: I can't gain weight!

Well I'm not as skinny as you girls I guess.
I'm 50kg = 110 pounds. 164cm = 5"4 inches

I really really hate hearing girls saying that they should lose weight or want to go on a diet.
One of my pet peeves

Re: I can't gain weight!

SweetMano: I'm also very petite. Always have been despite my large appetite. Even back when I used to eat junk food like crazy.....never gained any weight. I'm 5'0" and weighed between 85-90 pounds all through school/college.

Once I hit 30 though.....my metabolism did slow down a a bit. These days, I normally weigh around 98 pounds (still a size 0). If I lift heavy weights regularly......I can manage to get some curves in all the right places...lol.... and get my weight upto 102ish. But that's about it. My co-workers and even friends often tease me b/c I eat so much and still remain petite.

My parents are in their 60's and still skinny. With my mom, the only place she has gained any weight is her stomach....due to the pregnancies....but the rest of her is still skinny.

You can't alter genetics. If you're programmed to be skinny like many others....nothing can change that. Studying is no excuse. I know many people who went through med school, law school, and PhD programs and still managed to make time for important things like gym. Your meboilsm should slow down a bit once you hit 30. Pregnancy may also aid in this (although I know several women who're still a size 2 after multiple babies).

Please don't hurt your body by gorging on junk food. Whether skinny or fat....being healthy should also be your #1 priority. Also remember....there are MANY people out there who have the opposite problem (ie. they gain weight easily and always have to watch what they eat). Personally I consider myself blessed to be able to eat what I want without worrying about weight. :)

Re: I can't gain weight!

Start Gyming thats the only hope and eat alots of protein

Try Whey Protein is helps alot

Re: I can't gain weight!

And I'm sure those girls hate is when skinny girls talk about not being able to gain weight or not being able to find clothes b/c they're so skinyy. Grass always seems greener on the other side. :)

Re: I can’t gain weight!

This :k:

Yes, I am one of the person who gains weight so quickly. And, I wish I was like you who eats, eats but doesn’t gain weight.I have to look what i eat. I am not fat,I am healthy,if I be a little care less ,I 'll get fat .On the other hand, even though I gain weight quickly but I dislike extra skinny people.Eating healthy, being healthy with nice body is the key. :k:

Re: I can't gain weight!

nvm

Re: I can't gain weight!

^ LOL.....I agree with everything you wrote. And I didn't mean to imply anything about you personally.

At the end of the day it's all about how we perceive ourselves. I have a co-worker who's 2-3 inches taller than me but the same type of petite frame. She's obsessed with staying on a diet and gym (she literally runs 3 miles every-single-day). She's very strict about what she eats (plan raw veggies, fruits, grilled chicken, fish etc.) My entire team teases her b/c of her ridiculous diet....especially b/c she's skinny! Yet she herself doesn't see it (I roll my eyes everytime she comments on how skinny I am).

I also think girls focus too much on that magical number on the scale. Back in high school when I weighed in the mid 80's.....I looked anorexic. Yet I was totally healthy (exams by doctor and blood tests always came back normal). I have a cousin who's overweight.....yet technically, all her medical tests always come back normal. I think it's an assumption(that's often flawed) to determine whether or not someone is unhealthy just by looking at their weight.

Anyway I'm going on a aimless rant now...lol. Totally agree with your recs on the food.....fried foods and foods that're high in sugar doesn't lead to anything good. :)

Re: I can't gain weight!

nah I just got annoyed :P
sorry

I think I'm unhealthy I always tell my friends that I rather use the elevator than the stairs because I just start breathing heavily once I reach the top of the stairs (walking up 2 flights of stairs is no joke). I refuse to walk down stairs because I fall pretty badly once I even bruised my entire right leg and up to my hip bone falling from the stairs.

I swear if a doctor saw me they would think I was being abused..

Re: I can't gain weight!

Thanks everyone!
I think I'll start lifting weights :) And yeah I know junk food in bad for your health. I don't eat way too much of it, anyway. The problem is that I see many fat people (relatives) but I have never commented on their weight yet everyone will make an issue of my weight :/ I was not conscious about my weight until people started telling me :/ Uff.

Re: I can't gain weight!

Omg your sooooooooo lucky dude, seriously don't listen to ppl.
I would do anything to be your size!
i mean it, seriously i would love to be your weight
everything just fits so nicely and everything looks nice.

I'm 5'0 and i'm 65Kg and I HATE IT and i try a lot to lose that but nothing seems to work.
I use to be 110kg 2 years ago and i wasn't too concerned then. And even then i couldn't eat junk food cuz otherwise i would gain a few kg's very easily.

seriously be happy =)
