I went to a muslim web site to learn about Islam. I didn’t know diddly about Islam before 9/11. I sure didn’t know enough to hate anybody.

To tell you the truth, i dont give a fig. If you want to learn about Islam, you'll have the sense to go to the proper sources. This i'm afraid aint one of them. So if youve come here to learn about Islam, your in the wrong place.

Ma, I am currently comfortably ensconsed in Jeb-ville. Having had a 3 hour wait in the DMV yesterday with the Salt-of-the-Red-State folk, I can assure you that I am far more in touch with "America" than you are. Chomsky/Pilger/Independant/Guardian/Fisk America is the limit of your expertise and thought.
Oddly enough even Dennis Miller on his show last night was asking, "What if Blair and Bush are right?" An interesting thought not often considered by self-absorbed guppies.
And frankly I have learned plenty here about "Political Islam". Now point out to me a successful Islamic Government? That was my first question here, and it remains unanswered.
And, as of this moment, 54 Gupshup members, 75 "Guests" viewing Gupshup. Who are these people? Some poor fellow who Googled up Pakistan? And you don't think that having some guy above wishing to behead every Israeli from behind speaks volumes abour Pakistanis and Islam? Ma, please don't give a whit about me. But there are literally hundreds of Americans who inadvertantly view this site every day. Be concerned about them....

OG i dunn wanna talk about jeb-ville, DMV, american obesity or any of the sort, cuz frankly dear watson, they dunn bother me at all. I wanna teach about the foreign aspect. The one that doesnt really effect you and other 'ensconsed' americans, but is day to day reality for the rest of the world. I dont need fisk to tell me whats happening to my family & friends o' yonder do i? i guess you guys are in the limited arena in that sense, hence the reason you shud ask us the questions.
What if Bush and Blair are right? Well, that is elementary dear watson. where are the WMD? We have yet to find them.

Ohio - the points u raise are perfectly valid.
Some of the views expressed here are offensive to muslims as well as non muslims. This is not an Islamic website, it is literally a 'walkie talkie' website.
I do not have an appologist attitude towards islam, it is my faith and i try to practice it. But I can see how reading some posts can be seriously sickening. I will take the liberty of assuming i know a lot more muslims and a lot more pakistanis than u and thank God some of the views expressed here are as alien and abhorent to all of us.
It would be ur mistake to assume that these views are representative of muslims or Islam. If you really want to learn about Islam meet your average muslim in real life.

I also came to Gupshup to learn about Islam after 9-11, specifically how the muslim world regards the US. What I've learned is that the only muslims who view the US favorably, and comprehend its intentions and motivation, are adult individuals who live here in the US.
Everyone else on Gupshup, IMO, falls somewhere on a scale from moderate contempt to shear hatred (all driven out of feelings of jealosy and humiliation). It's too bad really.

You guys came to Gupshup to learn Islam? What a joke? If you had true intentions of learning Islam you would have gone to Islam101.com or similar websites. If you do a google search for Islam I don’t think that you would find Gupshup.com in result. So who are you kidding?

see its okay if you come here to see what Muslims are like on a bulletin board where pretty much anyone can blab his head off. if you wanna learn about Islam, as posters above have suggested, learn from proper sources so you can distinguish what is Islam, what might be sect specific, what is person specific, what isnt even relevant to Islam.
I actually have a very similar, very bittering experience from posting at guardian talkboards. its almost always american, pro bush posters slanging against liberal europeans, a certain number of pro Israel and some pro palestine ones, and Muslims there get a lot of battering from all (except the liberals). I dont think that joecharnock99 et al should tell me much about americans are in general.

I said I wanted to learn “about” Islam, not learn Islam. Those websites are one-dimensional in that they aim to show only the good side of Islam to illicit converts/reverts. Gupshup is uncensored and shows muslims’ true feelings.

The fact that we aren’t popular in the muslim world outside the USA only tells me that we have different interests. Well, you can’t please all the people all of the time. I say get over it. The fact is, we’ve been forced to address problems that the muslim world has ignored.

i wasnt complaining atlantis, i was trying to make the point that discussion boards have a way of bringing the most polar views into the sharpest perspective, and forming opinions from that about religions and peoples in general isnt the right thing to do.
