“I am tied to traditions, I cannot fly”
Do you agree/disagree as a Pakistani?
Do we need to uphold traditions or let go of them in order to progress as a nation and why?

elaborate it more please
Re: I am tied to Traditions
Naah it's perfectly possible to be tied with traditions and still move forward with the modern age.
I still retain a strong grasp of my heritage, I still have passions for the outdoors and the arts, but at the same time I am not ignorant of modern Technology and try to work the two together.
I cant think of a more vivid example than the Compound Bow I use at Hereford and Worcester shooting ground, it's a bow that will outrange most guns. :)
Re: I am tied to Traditions
For example our caste/social-division setup, the marriage, family and kinship traditions, the traditional roles given to men and women, dressing norms, festivals etc. etc.
Basically do we need to let go of our traditions (like it's happening to some other nations due to the extent of globalization and multiculturalism in their societies) do we need to follow in their lead in order to progress or can we take our traditions as we move forward?
Re: I am tied to Traditions
Now progress does not always mean throwing out the old ways. It's perfectly possible to retain old customs and move forward with the future. I look at other Asian societies who have done well and continue to hold traditional values even in modern settings.
Take Japan, China, Singapore, Germany and Switzerland all of them hold onto strong tradtional concepts from Bushi in Japan to the hard working classes of Germany all of them have strong roots and continue to hold the old ways with new ones.
German markets spring up all over the World come Christmas, Theres a China Town in every major City outside China and the Japanese take thier hard core traditions with them everywhere I still have a friend who insists I drink tea with him before every time we discuss business. :)

All I can get from your thread is you want freedom. Get out of Pakistan at once.

Re: I am tied to Traditions
What's a country without traditions and customs? Traditions preserve our identity and make up our culture which is unique to us. Sorry to say this but Pakistanis have already let go of plenty of traditional as well as religious values and what remains isn't very pretty. What we do need to get rid of are traditions that are contrary to the teachings of Islam, such as dowry, and traditions that impede **positive **progress.
Some traditions do impede progress but progress isn't always positive. Traditionally, women in Pakistan get married at a young age without pursuing further education and establishing long-term careers. This needs to change. We have no traditional obligations (actually, there's no compulsion in religion either) and we can always choose what's best for us. But giving preference to skinny jeans over traditional shalwar kameez, is that progress? The keyword here is positive progress that actually does some good for the society.

such as the use of contraception....
Re: I am tied to Traditions
That was a real low blow yaar… ![]()
Re: I am tied to Traditions
explain how that is a low blow? the OP has been posting essays on how contraception is immoral and such, and now is out being all about liberation from culture.. perspective is a useful thing.
Re: I am tied to Traditions
Oh okay didn’t know about OP’s previous posts… still it was out of order man. ![]()
Re: I am tied to Traditions
may be.
you don’t necessarily have to keep my whole posting history in view to reply ![]()
It’s a separate thread with a different focus… so whatever you think of as important traditions. simple.
Re: I am tied to Traditions
that’s okay, some posters like to take personal digs at others.
loved you post :k:
Re: I am tied to Traditions
How is contraception opposed to Pakistani/Muslim culture and traditions? First time I'm hearing of it.

Re: I am tied to Traditions
The caste system needs to wiped out asap but most others why not just leave it up to the individual.. I don't see the big deal with change or sticking to traditions as long as ppl aren't being forced to do things against their will or suffering because of them..
