Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
TS, who told you that we need get rid of all the fears ??
Its ok to live with one or two or a few fears.
Now here is the trick, stop being fearful of your fears.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
death is the ONLY certain thing in life. we can't do much about it. if we believe in the life hereafter, one must prepare himself/herself for THAT world while one is still living in THIS world. whatever your belief, follow the "Do's and Dont's" of that religion and this FAITH in SALVATION will make it easier to accept death with a hope to have a better life as promised by your religion.
to me, Islam encourages me to visit graveyard [cemetery] so we could remember our own death. remember your death every night before you go to sleep...sleep is a 'temporary death'. this is a good reminder.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
I think one only gets scared of death , when one is loving their life in this world .. Just because death is an ultimate reality and each and everyone of us will go through it at some point, it makes it much more easier to accept it.
When death happens, it takes only a few seconds and the person is gone. I feel, its not the person who dies , who loses anything, but the ones left behind who feel the loss immensely.
however its the pain factor that scares me. I do pray to Allah that He gives us an easy death. I have seen cancer patients and others lingering between life and death for months .. thats the worst thing ever , must worse then death itself.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
^ Agree to all of above.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
^Definitely Chicken biryani, it is the people that get left behind that deal with the pain:teary1: last night I was reflecting on this in regards to a recent death in the family and the impact it left behind…
I was actually thinking of this question earlier this week, but I realized I don’t fear it very strongly. Death is what it is, I’m far from perfect but I prepare everyday, not a day goes by in which I don’t reflect on life and Allah, I strive everyday to keep my relationships life sincere, also I have been steadfast in my prayers, I put my heart into sajda and I can’t describe the feeling in words. I think faith comes from within you cannot impose it on anybody, nor can you gain anything till you open your heart to it. Good luck on your quest. Allah is very merciful, always keep a positive opinion.

Question - why do you have to visit graveyard to remember our death ?
Whatever happened to the notion of -
Dil main rehti hai tasveer-e-yaar (in this case, death)
Jab gardan jhukaai, daikh li.
Also, remembering death every night before going to sleep is very dis-comforting and psychologically scary for me. Just makes me feel so futile and insignificant.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
That is nice. Bless you.

seeing is believing...a picture is is worth a thousand words.
it has double purpose. you are visually reminded of your own death coming in no uncertain words and, at the same time while you are there, pray for the dead, those from your own family and those who are strangers to you. you get sawaab, they get reward and you also get a stern reminder.
well, sometimes you have to take a bitter pill to cure your 'disease' and fear of getting more sick and the possibility of dying. remembering death before sleeping could be your last chance to ask Allah's forgiveness...this very well could be the last time you say a du'a. sleep is like preview of death.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
Can't I do it remotely ?
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
I think of death...but I dnt fear it for myself..what I fear most is ppl I love dying..now THAT scares the hell out of me.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.

sure but it won't have the same effect. btw, going to grave and sit there for sometime is recommended through aHaadees and the two reasons given there are the ones described in my previous post...namely, to remember your own death and to pray for the dead.
TS, you are NOT the only one who is scared of death, we all are. but the wise things is not to be scared of it because it has to come eventually and you can't do much about it...Ghalib said:

there is an appointed time for death. why can't we sleep ALL night?
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
[EMAIL="^@aahliyahkhan That"]^@aahliyahkhan That is what I concluded for myself too.
TS don't do anything that is going to depress you, you don't need to traumatize yourself by dwelling on it, fear of death is normal.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
One other thing, its human nature of be scared of things that are unknown to us. But once we are in the situation, we just get through it without knowing or thinking much.
I remember a friend of mine was held at gunpoint by some goons once, they asked for money, he was only carrying cards and they wanted to know his pin details .. he was let go later on ..
We asked him, if he was scared.. he said, yes he was initially fearing immensely but then when the gun was pointed at him, there was a moment when he thought "this is it" and suddenly felt calm inside him, like he wasnt fearing death but just wasnt willing to go through the immense pressure of thinking the bullets gonna come any minute... Its like in that split second he accepted death and was fearlessly ready to face it ...
Its a strange phenomenon though ..
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
I started feeling this when I was 23 years of age - I thought the second just passed took me closer to death and now 26 years later when brain tumor is looming, I do not feel much fear!
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
Death is inevitable. Why be fearful of inevitable?
As long as one does good deeds , one has no reason to fear death.
There are at least two kinds of people who fear death.
1- Those people who have no concept of life after death and they feel the life with pleasure will end one day. Those people are either sad or are fearful of dying.
2- Those who believe on afterlife but have fear of not getting the pleasure or rewards in afterlife because they feel as if they have not done enough good deeds.
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
Wow, you read me like a book. :)
Are you saying that those people are delusional ? Because nobody can know what awaits them.
Now that's just downright agnostic of you.
No, I'm saying that they are strong enough in their beliefs to accept the answers of their faith (or non-faith). It doesn't matter if either one is right, they believe that they're right, and that thought gives them comfort.

Are you 26 or 49 ?
Saw your thread in the Health forum. Insha Allah you don't have a tumour. Are you seeing more doctors to see what's going on ?
Re: I am TERRIFIED at the thought of dying.
You should be. Hell is a scary scary place.
