Re: i am sad =<
Zahir is a member at gupshup, that’s another story that he doesn’t post
My other brother and sister are bombarded with school work, so they don’t have much time to be online. My dada abbu is dead, daadi doesn’t know how to use computers as she’s not THAT literate. Nana nani are literate but they don’t have a computer. Ammi is busy with house work while abbu earns money. Too bad my family can’t join, but I am here to make your life a living hell ![]()

Re: i am sad =<
I hate to break it to you, but in other countries (i.e. OUTSIDE of the US), they do teach English in schools and in most cases, those kids speak/write better English than kids born and bred abroad as the ones who learned it as a second language don’t take it for granted and they have to go through tough time to learn it ![]()

Re: i am sad =<
One day, when you leave for college, your brother will open a similar thread....
about how happy he is to have you outta the house, and how he can takeover your room!
Re: i am sad =<
I completely disagree. As much as I hate to say it, Pakistan’s education (in general) SUCKS, and so it’s not likely that an average Pakistani student there would have such fluent English.
Re: i am sad =<
LOL ![]()
well actually once my sister’s has her rukhsati in december i get to have her cell phone and her room! :horray:
Re: i am sad =<
I think pakistani education kicks western education’s arse. Its just the practices of the west that give it that advantage, especially business practices, and since West control almost 90% of all business activities in the World, they tend to set the standards.
But I grew up here in the west, and they’ve made me dumb. Unlike those new paki comers, who are ultra smart. ![]()

No Phati, I learned English from there. I never spoke it in Pakistan because there was no need to, but I knew how to write and our text books were in English and we had to write essays etc. in English. Of course it depends on the school too. If you go to an English medium school in a city, the education system would better than a Government school in a village where kids are sitting under the tree on a taat. I've seen the village education system too. They have English subjects too in schools and the teachers teach English, but the kids are not really willing to learn because they don't need to nor do they have to because they'll be speaking Punjabi and their parents don't force it either because they know once their kids are done with school, they'll most likely be helping them out in the fields. So why push them to learn English? I am sure you've seen kids in villages too and you'd agree that there is no motivation there because there is no need to learn/speak English.
Re: i am sad =<
No we’re not talking about the minority of students who are fortunate enough to come abroad and study.
I’m talking about the MAJORITY of the country. The education is terrible there. Why else do you guys think the literacy rate is so low there?
And in the fields of technology/science, yes, there are some really good colleges there, but we were initially discussing the English subject here. =\
Re: i am sad =<
aww phati...it'll be ok. She'll still be around on weekends and there is the phone you know!! Besides you will be too busy during the weekdays because of school to notice. Cheer up girl!! :)
