Phati You are getting confused between SPEAKING ENGLISH FLUENTLY and FOBBY ACCENT.

People who know how to read/write English, don’t you think they can speak it too, that too fluently? I have seen students who came from Pakistan and spoke English fluently, the only problem was their accent.

As for me, when I came to the US 10 years ago, I could speak English fluently in school, it’s just that I had the accent. I have worked on it, it hasn’t completely gone but it’s much better now.

My point is that depending on which school you attend there, some kids speak/read/write BETTER english than kids who were born here in the US. Accent doesn’t matter much as long as you are able to comprehend what the other person is saying. When I came here, my English papers had LESS grammatical errors than kids who have been speaking/writing it since they started attending school.

I can assure you it’s not just the accent that is a hinderance in their English.

And, like I said…Yes SOME kids may have good English there and just have the accent…but the AVERAGE Pakistani definately does not have better English than a person born and raised in an English-speaking country. Just look at it logically, if you’re in a country where the majority of the people are all speaking another language, vs. a person who is living in a country where EVERYONE is speaking English, who do you think would have better English?! Experience is a better teacher than books.
