I am not a happy camper these days [split]

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

Ohmygod, that beach theme is adorable! I love the tiny sand castles and the whole look. Its so cute for a bridal shower too. Idea! And you totally have the picture!!!!!!!!! Yes, that is it. The only difference with mine is simply that mine is taller and thin with a smaller bowl on top. But you have the correct idea. How did you find this stuff? Ive been googling images with no success all morning! I kept thinking Ill just have to go to the garage and take a picture of it. Which I will regardless but I just got home an hour ago.

Do you think the vines trailing down are good or is there anything else one can do with them? Whaddaya think?

Yup…I DEFINITELY think vine tendrils going down the edge is a very SMART idea. Any time you have tendrils flowing down…it creates a soft/elegant/romantic sort of look. That’s why many up-do hairstyles leave a few tendrils of hair flow out from the edges.

If you only put flowers in a bowl…there is less visual focus…it looks boring…and kinda harsh in a way.

Here is a picture of a structure kind of similar to what you have…and vines are flowing down…is that what you’re thinking of doing with the vines? Vines make flowers look graceful, you should go ahead with that. And besides you want to use a little bit of green in your wedding decor…as it’s a part of your dress. Of course, you don’t want an overflood of green. Nobody likes to see broccoli vomit…but hints of green is very pretty, Reha. Actually, greenery is known to be healthy and soothing for the eyes. That’s why we find greenery in nature so appealing. So go ahead with the vines.

Many centerpieces…even the smallest and simplest ones often have vines/leaves/branches hanging a little bit off from the sides. take a look:

I think it looks elegant with vines hanging out. I don’t really like the candle stuck in the middle of a bunch of flowers look. Another possible idea is to have a vine wrap/snake around the skinny tube…but that can look kinda odd.

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

You know what's funny? You know how after a certain number of posts on GS, you automatically move from being a junior to a "senior" member? And then that senior label is seen with your nick. Does the word make you feel old? When I first joined, it took me a while to figure out that you become a senior after an x number of posts. But for a short time I though senior members were older.......although that's not the case at all. But it's the image that the word evokes. I think it's funny. Am i the only one who feels like this?

And now I just realized that the only time senior is a cool word is when you're a senior in highschool or senior in college or senior member of a club/group/company. It implies a dignified sense of importance then. But apart from these examples.....it seems old. Like senior citizens. Wow....the thought of becoming a senior citizen one day....yikes! I remember someone once telling me that you officially become counted as senior citizen once you turn 60. Yikes. Anybody watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? I haven't watched the movie.....but I read the story and I LOVED it! As a society we're more obsessed with youth and looking youthful than ever before. But the story, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.......points out the advantages and the downfalls of being old.......and young! An interesting/creative/ clever/frustrating/heartbreaking/can't do anything about it/part of life/deal with it......sort of concept for a story.

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

HIIIIIIIIII I'M BACK. I'm so glad you've joined us again Aisha. When I saw the PM in my mailbox I was very happy, much happier than I would have ever guessed I would be.

It actually saddened me to update the Happy Camper thread, and I actually preferred PMing Reha or sending her a visitors message instead. But now we can go back to the way things were! There's so much to catch up on. Reha has been keeping me sane and motivated for the past week or so.

Well, I am actually STILL at my meeting but found a few mins to update. I'll catch up soon. Just wanted to pop in. <3

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How cute is this thread.. hugs all girlies

Alright girls,

You know when you are getting out of a shopping plaza and need to make right turn onto the main road.....and let's say there is NO traffic light across from you to monitor the traffic flow. So you have to use your own judgment....and wait until the flow of oncoming cars subsides a bit....before you make that right turn?

Don't you hate it when there is an impatient driver behind you honking at you to hurry up and make that turn. And what's really irritating is that the driver behind you CAN'T really see the flow of traffic as well as you can....and their honking is rude. I've heard stories of people get so scared of the honking that they make that right turn out of PRESSURE from the car behind.....only to get hit by oncoming traffic.

If some impatient twit-hole **honks at me from behind....I **honk back. I've done a few times before and it's pretty funny. The other drivers on the road probably think there's a musical/honking game going on. But seriously, I honk back at your rude honking. And it usually shuts the other driver up. I'm not gonna jeopardize my safety/life because you're in a hurry to get to wherever you need to be.

The other sucky situation is when you're trying to make a right turn and waiting for a break from oncoming traffic to make your move.......and then this **MAMMOTH **sized SUV comes next to you and **BLOCKS **your view of oncoming traffic. Now you can't see traffic at all......and the idiot behind you doesn't get the situation and honks. So I honk back and usually the same number of times they honk at me.....so it makes for a really catchy honking beat on the road. An entertaining distraction for others, I suppose. But seriously.....what is WRONG with people?

Awwwwwwwwww...Im so glad we're baaaaaaaack! LOL. Group HUG! I know, Im cheesy but I cant help it...you guys are great.

You know what is really bad? When you're standing and trying to turn onto the main road abd you have to make a left! As soon as you get to the main road, the traffic starts and the car behind you has to make a right turn...you're the only one holding him up. Yeah, that is embarassing and those moments make me feel like a grandma behind the wheel, lol. Its rude though that people start honking at you. I just feel pressured because someone is behind me and waiting. Kwim?

Im so tired...went and took a damn class today and got my butt kicked at the gym! Everything hurts...........lol

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

Safety and survival first.....pressure later..........honk back!!!!!!

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

You ever notice how a simple ice cream cone from one of those small rinky-dinky shops near a beach or at a theme park or even from an ice cream truck......can somehow taste much so better and feel more satisfying than the fancy brand name ice cream cartons you buy from the grocery store?

And it's fun to watch the pretty two-toned vanilla/chocolate or vanilla/strawberry swirls come out the machine with just the press of a button.

When we go to Pakistan, we get this ice cream by a popular company called Wall's. And my favorite type is Wall's Feast. Any of you every try it? You have this nutty chocolate shell on the outside....followed by chocolate ice cream on the inside....and then the pleasant surprise is the layer of chocolate fudge like candy that comes at the end. And I like Wall's Cornetto cone as well.

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

You girls wanna know something interesting? Our birthdays take place in consecutive months. Mine is in August. Mina's is in September. Reha's is in October. Pretty cool eh? Only a sign that we were destined to meet and become friends, hehe.

Yes, I know what you mean. I adore cotton candy at carnivals. It doesnt taste the same coming from a store. Speaking of theme parks, has anyone ever been to a Taste? I dont know if any other cities have it but Taste of Chicago is a lot of fun in that regard. We have hundres and hundres of restaurants set up food stalls near Millenium Park for a week during summer and you just walk around, trying all sorts of different cuisines and yummy stuff! Its HUGE. I tried coconut shrimp there once and that was the only time I liked it. It was GOOD. The only problem I have with the Taste is that it draws such a large crowd, you literally get to see all the interesting (ahem, ahem) types of people in the city.

I havent been to Pak in years but might go late this year. I cant wait! :)

My fiance is August too! His is August 24th. I think its pretty neat! We took the best months of the year too. Ladies, at some point in our lives I definitely want to meet you. We should have a Guppy meet someday!

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

My thoughts exactly! We should meet up one day. I think we'd have a blast!

Girls, the wedding is less than 2 weeks away. How will I keep my sanity? I feel a little overwhelmed. I need help

  1. What should I wear to the court marriage?
  2. I have a long train on my lengha, will it be impossible to dance in?
  3. My hairdresser and makeup artist said that all my bridesmaids should wear button down tshirts. So I found some really nice shirts, very upscale and classy. I know it is something that will make them feel confident when they are out in the professional world. But I am thinking of embroidering them with “Bridesmaid” because I think thats customary? On the other hand, if I do that, then they can never wear them again! I am leaning towards not embroidering them, what do you think?
  4. I agreed to a particular type of chair cover with my decorator 5-6 months ago. Since then she has told me that they wont fit! URGHHH. The were very pretty and embroidered with gold thread. She is going to try and fit it with white chair covers instead. But I don’t want white chair covers, not the kind she has anyway. I have white folding chairs, should I just leave 'em bare? We’re doing a lot of lighting, pretty table cloth, etc. Will it look off? I would consider chivari chairs, but they are just crazy expensive, and I will get charged a premium for ordering them now anyway.

I would love to, love to meet you girls. You usually make friends as a consequence of circumstances; your cousins, college roommates, neighbors, classmate, family friend, etc. This is so much more organic. And we’ve just been able to talk. No BS. Its really been great, and heart warming.

Aisha, I know you mentioned it briefly, but you must share some anecdotes from your time away. Maybe funny little stories that we missed.

I had a meeting this weekend and a good friend was flying back to NYC and her flight got cancelled due to weather so she stayed over for two extra nights. I really, really love her. But it is like my last week at home, and I wish I could have just had the time with my family. I didn’t know how to tell her. But she’s great, and its all good. Despite my moving, I love having her over. We went and visited a friend who is a teacher at a nearby school and I thought of you Aisha! I had fun with the students and played some games with them. They were very receptive towards me.

There is something so gratifying about sharing and obtaining knowledge. I think that’s what we, as humans, were meant to do. To increase our aql. It is absolutely a very noble profession Aisha, and I have a lot of respect for you.

Reha, how are you? Where are those pictures? Have you made any big decisions yet? What about your mayoun outfit? Is PF still making it? I get my lengha in a few days, so I will give you a full and candid review. And why are you talking about food I am so jealous! I have heard Taste of Chicago is the best “taste” in the country. I really, really, really love FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! Reha you’re not going to loose your vanity pounds by eating all that stuff yanno? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have laser hair removal tomorrow :disgust: It’s painful. But I want to be hair freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for my wedding!

When we have our meeting lets do a spa day and EAT AND EAT AND EAT AND EAT AND EAT! We could do a little shopping too  I hope we can keep this up. Soon we will be talking about Aisha’s wedding. And getting back in the work force (maybe we get along so well 'cause we’re all unemployed? LOL!) And then it will be children and what to cook tonight.

This thread could be epic, right?

:hugz: thank you all for the support everyone. Makes up for any of the backlash.

Its okay Mina…stress is normal right now and if I were you, I would start to hit the treadmill for a few minutes. It might relieve your anxiety, if you have any. Other then that, dont worry. I know all will go well. Think of him and what you have to look forward to, everything will be fine. Inshallah.

  • For the court marriage, wear a simple white dress. Its a civil ceremony, so you dont have to go all out so wear something you can use again.
  • For the train, see if you can hook it to the back of your lehnga in a way where it wont be dragging on the floor under other peoples’s shoes. They have that on American dresses too where the train hooks up in the back without looking messy. Take it to a bridal store and see what they can do with it. It sounds fabulous!!! I cant wait to see you all dolled up Mina.
  • Dont embroider the shirts. Leave them as is otherwise they will end up in a pile somewhere. If they’re unembroidered, your bridesmaids will be able to really appreciate them because they’ll be wearing them again and again.
  • I have to do chair covers (the banquets chairs are not nice) but Ill be honest about something. I hate sitting chair covers. They’re slippery and no fun. If you have nice white chairs that dont compromise the formality of the occasion then leave them. If they seem too casual, dress them up.

Im doing good Mina. Im so glad we’re back! My mayun outfit will most probably be made from Pak also now. One of my family members offered to take care of it for me so I started to send pics of what I want. Inshallah, it will come out fine. Mina, all I can do is dreeeeeeeeeeeeeam about food right now. I cant eat a thing. I have to look like a million bucks so Im determined. I have some European chocolate stashed in my closet that I am not touching at all.

We can do a spa trip! Some place fun where we can just hang out and forget the world and calories. Have a weekend of amazing FOOD and girl talk and shopping. And Aisha, your wedding will be a fun one…all of us will be here to help and we can even do our Guppy meet so we can see you! Inshallah Inshallah Inshallah.

I wonder how many posts this thread could hold? Regardless, I plan on sharing it all with you girls. Can you imagine sharing pregnancies? Life? Kids? So many memories and we can be here for each other through it.

Im excited to have met you girls.

ANYONE that forgets me in this adorable guppy meet..shall surely chip a nail ;)

Somehow, u have to keep u're wits around get everything written and sorted-out and then give urself "me" time and plenty of it! Get a hot oil massage.. or some cosy thermal wrap!

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

dont knw what the current topic of disc. is but i know all of u girls were reading different books...so i thought i would recommend one that i just finish...its a really good read.

A Thousand Splendid Suns -- same writer as the kite runner -- great books.

it makes u cry but at the end u have a way better understanding of many things happenening in the afg. world.

I read A Thousand Splendid Suns and I really enjoyed it. I read that first and then I read The Kite Runner next. The author is so talented with his ideas, expression, and writing, that I envy him, lol. He's a doctor and after I read his books, I thought to myself, "he can give up doctoring, and rake in the money just by staying home and writing books."

Re: I am not a happy camper these days [split]

^ i haven't read the kite runner...but ll pick it up this weekend iA.
he is great. only thing from the book that isn't sitting well with me... is how positive the current situations is described and how everything is peachy pink in kabul. maybe thats the American influence on the writer.
