I am not a happy camper these days [split]

Yeah we didn't have an accurate #! we had to do A LOT of estimating- and part of the reason was was that we invited the whole family for most part. And the other issue was for our accomadating was that both my bro and SIL are from the same town, so between there family and our family, i think the whole state was invited. lol. it's hard to get an accurate number. you just have to do some good estimating. with everyone's plans and families, there's really no way to know, so you have to be flexible with your #s.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

today, i got a lot of stuff of done! pat on the back to me! I went to the gym, studied, and gave my two cents to GS.

good night girls and don't forget to say your prayers to Allah swt before going to bed!

Love, GJ

A free-verse poem titled**,

Ode to a Headache**

I feel as though there is
Lodged in my brain
A man playing the bongo drums
Or maybe there are no drums at all
Maybe he's playing a hammer
But I prefer the drums

Or perhaps he's a woman
Yes, I prefer a woman
No, actually I prefer you gone!

You are very moody
More temperamental
Than a bout of PMS
You suddenly vanish
As though you never existed
Only to return again
With stronger force

Spreading to my temples
Behind my eyes
And at times down to my neck
I do not admire your persistence

So, after giving my body the chance
To vanquish you itself
I will try to dilute you
With a few glasses of water

And if hydration doesn't work
I feel I must.... once gain
Bring out the drugs you so fear

Hmm, what shall it be today?
Tylenol? Regular or PM?
Panadol? It's gentle on the stomach.
Hmmm, decisions, decisions, decisions.
Choices, galore!

Wait a minute.....
Do I hear you leaving?
You think you've overstayed
Your self-imposed welcome?
Is it for good this time?
Or will u return again?

Did the mention of pills scare you?
Not your best friends are they?
Oh, well.
I can't take any more chances.
You see, i've given u too many.

Eventually I shall fall asleep
Peacefully
And you will find rest as well
When you leave
For the place
Where headaches go to die!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

And who is the author? None other then our very own Redvelvet! LOL. Love it..."Did I hear you're leaving?"...lol.

Ladies, have any of you checked out that thread in All Views about the guy from Ghaza? Im wondering because he seems like he needs help but Im not sure about what to do. Ive been thinking about it wanted to know what if you took a look at it.

I went and got some threading done today...I feel all nice and chickni right now...LOL. But my face is still a bit sore from it...

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Reha,

I'd like to help, but we need more information about which appropriate and reliable channels we can go through in order to send money, food, etc. People want to help but as X2 said, they don't want to be scammed. For example, the organization, Helping Hands, is a channel through which one can send money to the needy in Pakistan. In this situation, we haven't been given enough information yet.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days…

Reha,

Most desis have yellow undertones in their skin. So, here’s a web site that has a list of foundations best suited for Asian skin. I thought this might help narrow down your foundation search:)

Yellow-Based Foundations And Concealers For Olive & Asian Skintones

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Aisha...Im reading it right now...and its awesome! This is good stuff...I cannot afford to try all these products because Ive got sensitive skin...but the fact that someone tested, noted and evaluated them for us is really good.

Thank you!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Don't buy them, Reha. LOL. Go to sephora....and just test some out....narrow one....and buy that one. Some of the brands are reasonably priced such as Stila, Revlon, etc.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Reha,

Do try the yogurt therapy, it's actually the only dairy product that is most beneficial to skin because its similar to an antibiotic. My skin is sensitive like yours....particularly to stress. And I was advised by people to eat yogurt earlier but didn't do it. Now that I have, AH, i've found relief. Skin is easier to deal with when you can actually prevent the breakouts from taking place. If you're not lactose intolerant or averse to yogurt.....try drinking lussi 1-2 times daily in the days leading to your wedding. The other suggestion I have is to ask your derm for antibiotics which will prevent breakouts considerably. I don't mean to pester you, but do try the yogurt.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

You're right and Im actually going to go out and stock up on it tomorrow. I dont like plain yogurt and only drink mango lassi so flavored yogurt will have to do. Ive been thinking about it for a while now.

You're not pestering me! By the way, I need your msn...if you have one.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Flavored yogurt will do fine. Just check the label and make sure it says L. Acidophillus on it. That's the culture which will eat pimple producing bacteria. Try Dannon's vanilla flavored yogurt. Have u decided upon an entrance song? And lemme know if you need help with your wedding. I can try to brainstorm/research ideas on the Internet. You too, Mina.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Aww girls, you know before you posted that link to that guy's thread in All Views, I was itching to respond just as Reha did. But I decided to ignore it. I feel really compelled to help as well, but someone made a good point - what if we unknowingly donate to a cause we don't support?

Scary world out there, yanno?

Hey, Miss Aisha, how'd you go from talking to us about yogurt to entrance songs? How's your headache btw? And if you're poetry is that fuss class when your head is throbbing I can't imagine how lovely it is when you actually try. I think we're going to use the song on the website as an enterance song...

Reha, I really like your venue. It looks like a stately mansion. June is right around the corner. Are you feeling the pressure yet?

I need to check out that link that you posted Aisha, for matching skin tones to foundations and concealers. What do you use?

Dude, I tried GS chat today, and I said hi, and no one said hi back! And it was not a good experience. I felt shunned. :-( Let's go girls, get the pity party started!

ETA: A MSN swap is majorly needed. Do you realize that hundreds of random people are reading your headache poems Aisha? I felt like you wrote it just for us. I'm not sure if I want to share... And also, PMs are not fun.

An entrance song so far that is working for me is Teri Ore:

Let me know what you think of it please! If Ive posted this before, Im sorry! Im a little frazzled right now, thats all.

Thank you Mina!

Girls, Im trying to find decor ideas and coming up a bit short. The funny thing is, two years ago...I found these long, tall, thin vase looking things on sale at Dominick's and bought 29 of them! Why??? I have no clue! I thought we might need them because we have so many parties and weddings in the family. I took them out last night and all 29 were there. So I think what I will do is drop them off at our florist's shop and tell her to work her magic on them. I have to find lighting now for the day...I want the hall lights turned down and for me to walk in under a spot light with my parents on either side. My sisters and their husbands will be walking behind me in couples. My youngest sister isnt married yet so she will be with my cousin. My baby niece will be the flower girl...although HOW Im going to manage to get a two year old to walk straight without getting amused by something along the way is beyond me! She is my jaaaaaan but so easily distracted...uff! I wanted to go all out on her, get her dressed up as a mini-bride too but I think that might look wierd. People will think Ive lost my senses when I simply think she looks so cute dressed up! LOL.

My colors for the reception are violet and gold. My dress is olive green and maroon. Do you guys think I should match the decor with myself? Someone suggested that and I think that might be too much green for me! Ewwwww! Yuck! But at the same time, do you think violet and gold will clash with me? Will it look out of place? Im trying to picture this and having trouble.

LOL. Yeah, can you tell girls that Im a bit nervous now? I am. My MIL might be coming early to help with the wedding preps so Im nervous about that too.

Mina, dont feel bad about the GS chat thing. Do you have any idea how many times Ive logged on only to be talking to myself? I tried it out of curiosity and practically cyber-screamed at someone to talk to me...but nothing! Whatever, its their loss! LOL.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Reha, what colors will your sisters be wearing? Will they be wearing matching oufits? That looks cute too- like desi bridesmaids. Or will they be wearing matching colors? One mehendi I went to the three sisters of the bride wore different colors, but the design was the same. And their kids, wore the same color as their mom, but they wore shararahs. It looked so adorable!

Or is everyone very indvidualistic in your household, and will be doing their own thing? lol

BTW,
We're learning about female hormones right now and did you know that birth control pills are used for acne their actually a very effective treatment! I could give technicals from my notes, but I think acne.org did a good job summarizing,

"By reducing the effect of the androgen hormones on the sebaceous glands, OC's can reduce the amount of oil your glands produce, which means that your pores are less likely to get blocked. Recent studies have shown that some contraceptives are also effective for treating acne. "

So if you're afraid you're going to breakout before the wedding Reha, you could ask your doctor for this. And since there hormones that you take orally you don't have to worry about you skin being sensitive.

Reha,

My sister and I love the song “Teri Odh”…not too long ago we were both arguing over who gets to use it as their entrance song! So, run with it!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Reha,

I've got to run to the grocery store. Let me know exactly what kind of decor help you need and I'll see if I can brainstorm ideas.

I, personally feel that your decor should** NOT** be matched with your bridal outfit! NO WAY! It's going to all blend in so much, that you won't stand out. And, we all know that the guests are really **waiting to see the bride make her entrance........ Everyone is curious about the bride and her dress. That's why your clothes should be a surprise.....Matching the decor to your clothes defeats the purpose! I think violet and gold is a lovely combo. First of all its a classic and **royal combination for special occasions. Secondly, gold is a neutral celebratory color. Stick with the gold and violet!

YES! I agree, I love the violet and gold color combo. GORGEOUS. I have not seen enough weddings in that color and I think it so rich and regal. I love the combo SO much, that I made my wedding cards in that color, http://www.paklinks.com/gs/bazaar-talk/310207-wedding-special-occasions-cards-meena-agencies.html

This site has more pictures of purple/violet weddings Wedding Purple Pictures - Project Wedding I know they are not desi weddings, but you can definitely get inspired!

Although you have handed things over to your florist, you should do some research as well and find out what you like and don’t like! Here is a list of purple wedding flowers Popular Purple Wedding Flowers And these are the flowers that are in season during you wedding

Chrysanthemum * White, Yellow, Orange, Pink, other colors

English Lavender * Purple

Forget-me-not * Blue

Freesia * White, Yellow, Pink, Blue, Purple

Hydrangea * White, Blue, Purple, Pink

Iris * Purple, Blue, White

Larkspur * White, Purple, Blue, Pink

Liatris * Pinkish Purple

Lisianthus * Purple, White, Pink

Matsumoto Asters * Pink, Purple

Monte Casino Asters * White, Purple

Statice * Purple

Obviously the flowers in season will be a lot more affordable as well. And I think a tonal floral arrangement will look gorgeous (various shades and depths of purple, violet, lilac would be lovely).

I know you guys are getting beautiful chairs at the facility, have you considered adding a purple colored organza sash tied around the chair? That would look really pretty!

I don’t think your stage should match your outfit either! Why not make it match your theme instead? You could do a white/off white stage fabric with gold embroidery, throw purple lights on it to give it some shading. Have draping done in just gold, or gold and purple.

What you’ve described about lighting, with the spotlights, sounds perfect. And **gulab jamun **made some good suggestions about matching, etc. I think that’s a great touch as well!

Mina…do you also have a purple fetish? I am in **LOVE **with purple. I feel I am one with that color! I just came from the grocery store and the purple roses and tulips were so gorgeous. Have you noticed that when you ask people why they prefer a certain color, they usually give no other reason other than “I like it.”

But not I…my fellow purplarian! I do have a reason…several…that go beyond the vague, “I like it.”

See, every color represents a mood and various qualities. Purple represents mystery, creativity, imagination, spirituality, and royalty…all of which I adore. It is a common favorite among artists. It promotes relaxation. The opposite of purple on the color wheel is yellow. And since most desis have yellow undertones in the their skin…purple being the complimentary color for yellow flatters most Asian complexion.

And you know what the **COOLEST **reason of all is? Purple is a combination of red and blue. Red is strong, fiery, dynamic, bold, passionate, impulsive, and dangerous. Whereas blue represents calm, peace, security, loyalty, sincerity, stability. And purple merges the qualities of both red and blue…two very powerful colors in the color wheel.

I know…I’m a freak. I dedicated a whole frickin thread on purple. I need to get a life. But…I will admit…I’m rather proud of myself. I think one should have reasons for why they are partial to one color above others. I’ve taught language arts quite a bit, so I get my students to think about the symbolism behind the colors chosen by the author in novels…as well as names of characters.

I’ve taken several art classes so I a fetish for color in case you guys havent’ noticed. I also have a fetish for the word “fetish.” You can never use it enough.

So…yes, Reha. I agree with Mina. Puple and gold are a royal and regal combination…and what bride doesn’t want to look like a royal princess on her special day. The cool thing about gold is that you can put practically ANY color next to it and it will stand out. Thats why u should go with purple and gold. And as far as the person who suggested you match your decor to your clothes…I suggest you glare at the them. (kidding).

Mina, I forgot to tell you this earlier. But I think the example of the bridal dress you pasted is really lovely and classy. It’s a very pretty choice for a wedding dress.

Reha, what color flowers are you getting? What do you think of purple cala lillies?

I’m going to google image Mina’s flower pics and narrow it down to those I think are divine:)
