School has hijacked my life...I never realized how hard med school would ever be. They really push you to the limit. I remember there was a time when I slept a 10 and woke up at 6am, and now I'm lucky if I go to bed at midnight and wake up at 5am. sigh......
One of the thing that happens in med school is you don't know what to talk about with anyone anymore. And the only people you talk to and relate to are your classmates...and it''s always about school, cuz apparantly noone has time to watch TV, go out, or do anything but study! And of course your parents! You become part of this other club where it seems like only your classmates can understand. Your life becomes super organized and super focused. Coffee becomes your best friend. Your room becomes surrounded by tons of books, hilighters, pens, notes and studyguides. Stress is something you are all too familiar with!
It's definetly a unique experience...it makes you more focused towards your goal. I think the best part of it is the competition. In the past I never had to work to shine in school: it came automatically to me. But med school every one is that shining star and you really have to push your self to be brighter then rest! And that's what makes all the studying fun! It's like a game, and you really really want to win it!!
The professors also become tougher....They're more impatient- and expect perfection on the first try....or else be prepared to be yelled at!!! You have to know your stuff really good or else risk embarrassment in front of your class mates! You really learn to develop thick skin....
There also very no- nonsense- especially the surgeons!!! you don't talk about anything else but pathology and surgery with them. Nothing else....no small talk, no unnecessary smiling, just very amazingly to the point!
The funny thing is is that I think the the no-nonsense is rubbing of on me. I don't feel the need to make small talk anymore, and nor do I feel the need to smile anymore, and when I want something done NOW, I want it done NOW!!!! I think I'm really liking the surgeons a bit too much! lol!
