Hey all,
I wanted to share my experience of getting married in Karachi. I have no family/friends in Karachi yet we ended up getting married there. I had initially ordered a nikah outfit from Fahad Hussayn. I was assured that the package would get here on time but I had to email/call him a 100 times before I finally got my dress two days before the original wedding date. That wasn’t as big of an issue because we had changed the wedding to Pakistan and the date got changed to a month later but that still did not leave me with enough time for a good dress. Fahad Hussayn’s dress arrived rolled up and thrown in a ripped box without so much as a plastic bag to cover it with. Due to snow and slush and wet weather here it got a mud stain on it. It was 10 sizes bigger, and looked like an old sample piece. I was literally in tears the day I received it. I had paid a lot of money and since I couldn’t even speak a word without crying my fiance spoke with Fahad Hussayn about it. At first he refused to admit that the dress was old, bigger and not what we had asked for. Finally he said that maybe his assistant had made a mistake and that he would make us a new dress. The problem was, my mom simply refused to let me take a second chance with him. So after a lot of argument we got him to agree to exchange that dress for some joras for me to wear after the wedding.
My mom went to Pakistan 3 weeks before the wedding. She ended up getting a dress made from Lahore for me. I did not see the dress until the day before the wedding. Fitting was a little off but overall it was pretty good for a last minute dress. My jewelery was also last minute because my mom had gotten me an emerald/white gold set made to go with my Fahad Hussayn’s dress but since it was a disaster my mom decided that I had to wear red so she got the matching jewelry made from Islamabad.
I was not involved in any wedding arrangements. My SIL and MIL booked the hotel, henna artist, salon, photographer etc and my mom paid. I had my make up done from sabz and even though I liked the make up, I didn’t like the overall experience. My appointment was for 3pm and we got there around 3:30 because there was firing going on in Karachi that day. My SIL scared my mom about the jewelry so I was sitting in the salon with foundation on, trying to convince my mom to please bring the jewelry so that I could get my hair/dupatta setting done. I had to call my husband and threaten him and then wait till 6pm to get my jewelry. This was the reason for the delay in my hair/dupatta setting but I never understood why they wouldn’t start my make up until my hair was done? Saba got mad at one of her employees and started screaming like a banshee, and she also smoked right in the make up room. I loved the guy Nadeem who did my hair and dupatta setting.
My baraat was supposed to arrive at 8pm but it arrived at 10pm because they had firing going on right outside their house. We had our portrait session going on at 2am so I was basically dead tired and in pain because of a migraine.
So overall my experience wasn’t as I imagined it would be but now I am hoping that when we do our walima in Canada, the experience would be much better because I will have control over most things.
I am attaching a picture but please please please don’t copy it or save it on your computer. I don’t have the professional pics on a cd yet and this one was taken by my aunty from her digital camera. Enjoyyyyyyy and thanks for reading my complains ![]()
I threatened him to get his butt off the couch when I entered. He actually helped me up the stage and then left me stranded there until I almost tripped and fell on my face and then he took my hand and walked me to the couch.
This was right after I sat down and was looking for my mom to come help me fix my gharara and dupatta because I was sitting on my dupatta and it was pulling on my hair
Putting the ring on his finger
My dad made me laugh when I should have been crying so I couldn’t cry and his friend kept screeching from lord knows where ‘bhabiiiiiii you are supposed to cry’ and I felt like smacking him across the face. He’s lucky he was not in my face at that time …
Headed to the boardroom for my portrait session
