hypothetical question

If you don’t drink, would you hang around people that do? And would you go to a bar/club/party where there’s free-flowing alcohol and be happy sipping on your coke/juice/water?

Is there any point being at being at an event where everyone is plastered, except for you, assuming that you enjoy the company of your friends?

well there should be somebody sober to haul them back home

I don't mind going to a pub with friends for a drink. They'll have their alcohol, and I'll have my sprite or water. I don't feel awkward about it. As for going to parties where everyone is plastered, that is not my cup of tea. It's a waste of my time being with a bunch of drunk people. I'd have better things to do.

Nope... 'a man is known by the company he keeps' :)

That isn't necessarily true.

I agree with Fret. As for the company cliche, ugh, I'm getting tired of 'em. It doesn't even remotely apply to the person.

Okay, well I partly agree. I was a bit torn today because my friends have organised a huge bash, with party bus and all, but I promised myself I wouldn't go. I've been tormented all day with my friends bugging me to come, but I had to be resilient and say I couldn't come. My excuse was "what do you want me to do while you're all piss drunk, you won't even notice I'm there!" but yeah, they said I have to ensure that everyone gets home safely. So here I am, trying to do some constructive work. :-) la di da

Coco, I'm surprised you say that.

You people need to stop hanging out with drunks. Going to the bar or club and having a couple of drinks doesn't mean you are piss drunk and incoherent. Having a couple of glasses of wine or beers with friends doesn;t mean you are plastered. Maybe youguys are attracted to drunkards. Are you high?

When in Rome ;)

You can still go, its a club, you can dance and mingle. Some need alcohol to have a good time others dont. Unless your worried that you take a swig b/c of peer pressure.

no

no

no

Cat: You know whats surprising is that you hang around with people who can't hold down a shot glass without going incoherent. I've been around folks who have all their 6 senses intact and are very considerate around me while drinking. I'm there to have fun and chauffer their activities if they get out of hand. Its all in the name of having each others back because you never know what can happen. Some do get drunk and you have to toss and tuck them into bed so their parents won't scold them. I have limited my friends from drinking, driving while intoxicated or even poisoning themselves. Its what people like you and me can do. Seek an oppurtunity in the darkest cloud. I say you live one life, might as well experience it to the fullest even if it is through anothers eyes.

Matsui, think back to the time you were in your late teens/early 20s...surely alcohol formed a large part of your entertainment? Now if my friends were in their late 20s and early 30s we'd be chilling in jazz bars and smoke rooms, and not pool bars and clubs. I think boys will be boys, girls grow out of these things much quicker. Most of my friends are guys, so it doesn't help much. Anyhoo, I'm still having second thoughts...I have 1 and a half hours to decide whether I'm going or not...it's just that I just don't enjoy these things anymore...

Um Coco, my friends are veterans. They'll be drinking and drinking, mixing, having shooters and they'll try to get drunk but they just can't coz theyre so used to it. Last year was bad...this year everyone has calmed down somewhat. When you havent drank properly for a few months the alcohol can hit you bad. They're already counting how many drinks theyre having and what drink theyre sticking to, coz they dont wanna be mixing and get drunk...what am I meant to do, dance by myself in oblivion...

Coco are you telling me to go?

It all explains why I’m on gupshup so often this year.

You'll be out of place so give it a miss. They won't notice that you're out of place because they'll be blattered so if you won't enjoy it don't go. They'll enjoy themselves regardless so no need to feel too guilty about it.

Aaaah Mr X…such wise words. Thankyou I feel a lot better after reading your post.

 Mr X

I know I'm just fantastic aren't I? or so I hear lol!
