re: Hydroquinone Info...

Stop using Hydroquinone it will make your skin more sensitive to sun! And it is also liver toxic over long term use!

re: Hydroquinone Info...

Hydroquinone shouldn't be used for more than 2 - 2.5 months.

It's considered dangerous because:

1) It makes skin HIGHLY sensitive to the sun.

2) Long term use has been linked to a skin condition called ochronosis where the skin actually becomes darker. This is a very difficult to treat condition.
3) Studies have not been done on the safety of hydroquinone on pregnant women. Also, it is not known whether or not this passes through breastmilk. Hence, women who're pregnant and/or breastfeeding should not use this.
4) There has been some evidence that this might be carcinogenic (but again, not conclusive). So another words, even though it has not been proven conclusively that hydroquinone is carcinogenic.....it also has not been proven that its not.

re: Hydroquinone Info...

ok well i am thinking to go for kojoic acid cream instead of hydroquinone. paheli do u have any experience of kojoic acid creams.

re: Hydroquinone Info...

^ LOL....I wasn't trying to scare you off from using hydroquinone. I just wanted to make sure you and the others realize the precautions that must be taken when using it. Sunscreen is an abosolute must when using many of these chemicals (glycolic/lactic/kojic acid...retin a....hydroquinone etc). And with hydroquinone, just use it for 2 months....stop for a year....then use it for 2 months etc. It just can NOT be used continuously long-term. Definately stay away from it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. I have used it without any issues and it helped me get rid of quite a bit of hyperpigmentation I had a from acne.

I have not used kojic acid myself but from what I've read on it, I would definately use it IF I was interested in lightening my skin. Cape Fear Naturals 4% KA usually gets good reviews. You should also look into lactic acid peels and Vitamin C serums if you're interested in lightening and brightening your skin tone.

BTW, ALL these ingredients require staying out of the sun as much as possible and the use of a good quality sunscreen anytime you're outdoors during the day. And please do not forget to apply it also on your neck area too.

re: Hydroquinone Info…

thank you paheli.:hugz:

yes i am planning for lactic acid peels and vitamin c serum too after reading your threads about peels and serum.

re: Hydroquinone Info...

paheli- how long did u use for....ive used now for 2 months, was thinking another 2 months? HOW BAD WERE ur scars bfore ....mine have lightened but not completly.only lit bit,.

so can i use for another 2months( i bought the supply already)

AND THEN STOP completly?? or just for once a week or so....or none at all....

and thenstart again after 4 5 months??

re: Hydroquinone Info...

I have been using Hydroquin on and off....it is just like any bleach cream....it bleaches your skin but results are not permanent...as my pigmented spots come back after I stop using it....I always wear spf 60 +....once again its use is only temporary solution..........

re: Hydroquinone Info...

My scars weren't deep but I just had a lot of them. If I remember right, I used it for a little over 2 months. After that I started using Retin A and doing the peels. Lactic Acid will also help even out skintone.

Whether or not you use it for 4 months is upto you. I know I didn't use it for that long and from the research I've done, most people who've used it safely don't use it for that long either. Only you can decide how big of a risk you want to take with your skin.

And yes, once you stop, you need to stop COMPLETELY. Personally, I would then take a break from using it for at least 10 months. As I said earlier, only you can choose how big of a risk you want to take.

re: Hydroquinone Info...

SO RESULTS are not permanent?

my acne redness scars will return/??

re: Hydroquinone Info...

^No, not those..

It's just 'normal' skin which will revert to its natural shade (or much darker without sun protection)..

re: Hydroquinone Info...

so, whats the way to permanently lighten skin a shade or 2....lactic acid peels??

re: Hydroquinone Info…

:smack:

Oh Nadz

re: Hydroquinone Info...

WHAT.

i want a nice even tone, some of my fac eis lighter. and i would like it that colour, so a shade lighter for would work. stop with the -your-lovely-as-u-r-even-if-u-look-like-**** briagade.

re: Hydroquinone Info...

Oh and there is a difference between lightening skin and evening out skin tone.

There is no way to PERMANENTLY lighten skin. Many things out there will lighten it but EVERYTHING requires continued use if you want to maintain it.

Just like hair. You can color it as often as you like....but your natural hair color will always grow out sooner or later if you stop coloring it (or go too long in between colors).

** Lactic Acid peels will lighten skin over time. I had this happen to me. So I would definately include that in your routine if you're wanting even out skin and get a bit of lightening while at it.

re: Hydroquinone Info...

ok thanks, so how long after stop using the hydroquin cream will the colour start fading...
and how long after you have been using lactic acid peels have you noticed a lightening....

thanks paheli.

re: Hydroquinone Info...

also im using it once a week for 7mins at a time..the peels that is.

this enough? should i use for longer time to get results....

re: Hydroquinone Info…

^ Nadz: It’s hard to say how long after hydroquinone will the skin “go back”. Again, think of it just like hair. Not everyone’s hair grows at the same rate.

Using the Lactic Peel 1x/week is fine. If you want to, you can increase the time. Again, this assuming your skin doesn’t get irritated/dry/flaky from 7 min. In crease it by 1 minute each week. Once you get upto 15 minutes without any problems…then you can consider layering it. Make sure you do the peel on your neck/upper chest too!

As for me…I’ve been doing various peels (lactic, glycolic)…and using Retin A for over a year. I’ve also been using Vitamin C serum over 8 months. Retin A helps peels/other acids penetrate better. My current resutls are a combination of using multiple products. I noticed a few months ago that my face looked lighter…so I started using everything on my neck/upper chest too. Over time it looked more even. BUT then I started noticing about a month or so ago that certain parts of my body is a shade darker than my face/neck/upper chest. :smack: So ummm…yea…I’m gonna have to deal with this now..lol.

So keep that in mind Nadz…if you’re going to be actually lightening skin (as opposed to evening it out)…then you should do it to the whole body. Otherwise you’ll be 2 different shades!
