Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

Anyone know where to get a pretty kharra duppatta suit in Karachi--similar to the types Poddy123 posted??? Do they always have gota kaam or dabka as well????

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

do u know any designer who designs khadda duppata with suits for bridals

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

Kharra dupata traditionally comes with gota work carried with Hyderabadi suits but you can always improvise depending on your choice, like add zardozi , pepal girah or nakshi work in it.

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

The backside looks normal my dear :) the dupatta is tucked into the pyjama at the back and then it is allowed to fall till the length of the kurtani/kameez while it is still under the kurtani/kameez and then from where the kameez ends, the dupatta is turned up to be draped around the shoulders, try the draping with your normal dupatta at first, U won't get wht i say till u do the practical babes..

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

some pics, A hyderabadi bride typically wears a heavy red dupatta with traditional jewelery-jadawi chintak, satlada, tirmani, karan phools, tikka, masale ka joda i.e a set of lac bangles. I personally am sick of red khada dupatta simply becoz everyone wears it n u cnt recycle it i.e u cnt wear it in your brother’s wedding coz u’ll end up looking like a second bride baaaah :smack:

All said n done I love the second pic bride’s everything, the dupatta, the polki chintak is to die for
the third pic does not feature a khada dupatta but i included it becoz the bride’s outfit is awesome, the colour combo, the kaam n more importantly the fab fabric, look at the way it falls, i’m sure it’ll drape fantastically.

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

now here come the antique/vintage khada-dupattas, regal n royal :biggthumb:

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

Thats simply gawjus!! I believe this is also a khada dupatta by bunta kazmi-that lady has the midas touch, she can turn anything into gold!! jst look at the shimmering kamdani on this dupatta,MashaAllaaaaaah!

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

Zephyrus, are you from hyd as well?
the pix u posted are absolutely gorgeous..n u r rite!d thing wid red dupattas r,u cant wear it again,fr smone else's wedding..

2 people i knw, tried to be innovative with their dupattas..Both their bridal khada dupattas were pink..with zari n gote ka kaam and golden kaam on it..one made a contrast golden blouse on it and draped it as a saree for a wedding..it looked ok..

As for the other, her ghoongat on d wedding day was exactly like her khada dupatta,so she made another dress and got the ghoongat to match and wore it as a dupatta..-i liked dis version better

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

Here are a few pics..the pink one is d bride and the golden one is the bride’s sister..the border is called saancha masala, which contain real gold n silver

Re: Hyderabadi Khara Dupatta

yes AmazingAquarian I’m from hyderabad as well  I still live in hyderabad and will continue to do so as long as Allah wills. lol declarations apart, Its nice to see a khada dupatta thread on a pakistani website and also to meet a hyderbadi here:)makes me feel good bout being a hyderabadi.

ok lets get back to the topic after that long bhasan :stuck_out_tongue: yes a red khada dupatta is soo common :disgust: however have a look at this link, there are some 6 pics, watch out for the KD prasoona reddy is wearing, I’m assuming it has white embroidery or kaam, and if it is so then that can be worn easily as a saree!!
You and I – Photo Gallery Pictures (I cannot download these pics, some of them are soo beautifull! )

AA as u correctly pointed out that a KD worn as a saree does’nt look that good, esp if the KD has gota masala on it, it becomes obvious that u’re trying to pass off your KD as a saree!! lol. but u know wht my mum wore her KD as saree at my cozn’s wedding recently and no one actually guessed that it was a KD  Mainly becoz
1-the colour is NOT red-it is tomatish pinkinsh orangish something.:Done very big factor in recycling your KD is colour.
2-She replaced the goldenn jhakaas masala border with a contrast green border which had kaam on it. The shiny cutting wala gotta border is now resting in her wardrobe waiting to be used but I dnt think we’ll ever use it coz it has ‘I’m a Khada-Dupatta masala’ written all over it :stuck_out_tongue: So if u want to recycle ur KD, revamp it.
3-Mum’s KD is made of net. Another factor, KD’s can be worn as sarees only if the material is flowy and can be draped like net or best chiffon(I think a Chiffon Kd is the best, it looks good as a KD and saree both)

Another Idea that u mentioned of recycling the ghoongat is the same that even I had!! talk about all hyderabadis thinking alike  wht I exactly thought is that supposing we got a ghoongat made with the KD which goes with it, then the kurtani-pyjama-ghoongat can be used as an outfit!! we can even make the pyjama and ghoogat of the same colour to contrast with the kurtani !! And it would look good, esp the kurtanis which have such elegant key-hole neckline which is allmost allways hidden under the heavy dupatta :bummer:. wht we can do to make the kurtani more wearable is to rip off the gota at the shoulders and most importantly get the kutani made into a regular kameez with slits at the begining it self!!

that sets off another thing I have in mind bout KD. why wear a frock type kurtani?? I think it kills the draping effect, I mean the kurtani is without slits and when u drape the dupatta it really hampers the drapes from showing off, see like in this pic

so y make a frock?? jst becoz its done that way??:hoonh: I’d get a regular kameez with slits made with a Kd, it helps to show off the drapes and also can be reused as a suit later on.

so this way we can make a kd and reuse it as 2 outfits! I’d say that we must preserve the gota masala so that we tack it back on the saree and wear it as a khada-dupatta again if the occasion demands.

here’s a bonus for reading through my loooooooong post  some sanchak KD pics I found.

P.S-AA I cnt see the pic u posted above, I understand if there are some privacy issues
