In the US my husband was only allowed in AFTER I got anesthesia for my c-section. But I know others whose hubbies were present for that part too. It depends on the hospital.

The reason many don’t allow the dad in there until everything is “set-up” is b/c often the dad’s interfere OR can’t handle being in the OR for so long. It gives them time to look around the room, see all the equipment, sit there and see the little things being done to wife etc…many men mentally freak themselves out over this and lose focus on what they’re there for (ie. to lend emotional support to the wife). Hence they’re brought in once everything is “ready to go” and the wife actually needs him to talk to her and keep her calm.

My husband was right there with me holding my hand while I was getting my spinal block, but then again, everything happened so fast because of the emergency c section, maybe that’s why they didn’t ask him to leave?
