Women are our comfort zone. While women go to other women for comfort, men do not go to men. They look for the female companion they feel most comfortable with and look for emotional support from them. That in this case is the wife. And frankly it has to do with attitude. A guy when comes home from a rough day in general be it work, family or what not. He just wants to be pampered. This is not an every day thing.
Good lord, I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with everything you just wrote. It is the responsibility of the wife to provide her husband with love and support, but don't smother the poor man. That said, most affairs do not happen because the other woman is more sexually attractive, they occur because the other woman is willing to provide a level of comfort, understanding, and encouragement that the wife does not offer. It is too easy for some women to fall into a pattern of criticizing every fault of her husband in a manner that borders on verbal abuse.
While there are exceptions, a man will typically rise to the high expectations that you set for him. The axiom about catching more flies with honey than vinegar definitely applies to marriage. Most things are not worth picking a fight about. I spent more than 15 years nagging my husband to pick up his clothes - nothing worked. Finally I stopped talking about it but made sure that the rest of the room was tidied before he came home - now he puts his clothes in the hamper. I save my arguments and criticism for the serious offenses (like the fact that his parents have now been here for more than a year, and it is time for them to go visit another sibling, LOL).
Ladies - your husband is not interested in seeing you in grubby sweats smelling like Chlorox bleach (or worse, body odor or stale masala) at the end of the day. We dress up to go to out to lunch with our friends, why not make a half-arsed effort for our husbands?
