On the other hand, I was thinking if such a natural calamity ever strike Pakistan, God forbid all hell would break lose ..all thanks to the poor disaster management structure there and not learning from previous mistakes, as is evident from the consecutive havoc floods have caused in Sindh and Punjab over the last two years ! :no:
and an afterthought why are these hurricanes named after women…gender bias much

I have been following the news and cant seem to find if Sandy has died yet or is it continuing its route with lesser intensity ... anyone knows?
Eni, answer to your question, the flooding that Pakistan encountered was alot more disasterous then what America has suffered on its east coast .. At least American people were informed of the disaster approaching and they have the resources to tackle it , in Pakistan, on the other hand, no areas were evacuated what so ever, no support was given to anyone who was affected .. and whats worse, even the flooded river banks were broken off intentionally by the big shots , to avoid getting their property and land damaged and as a result millions were affected ...

Sandy is no longer a hurricane. It's a storm now. Its going to rain where ever it goes, it won't have the same intensity.

It was categorized as a storm even before its landfall , but the amount of disaster it caused was tremendous .. most of it is flooding though, it seems ...

But NY and NJ did get hit very hard. Lots of people still without power and with no clear end in sight. Lots of flooding damage and debris.

NOt only that it looks fake, but its poorly Photoshopped. The statue of liberty is facing South east, while the storm is traveling North west (ish). In this pic, Storm is traveling in the same direction that Statue is facing which is not possible.

Alhum it's just a storm with scattered t-storms.
We weren't hit as bad as NJ and NY. Only flooding around areas relatively close to beaches/ ocean.
Out fence and pool broke, there are tree limbs and branches all around. A lot of trees split in half and fell onto power lines.
Last night, there were 300,000+ power losses in our state, we were one of them.
Alhum we're all fine and no serious damage to the house.
Others weren't as lucky. :(
And yes, that pic of Lady Libery is fake. The water wasn't that still and they had all the boats and ships harbored the night before, and there's a boat in the pic :P

Sounds like New York got hit pretty bad they had winds for 80mph according to one of my sources. Prayers for all those innocent souls afflicted, may Allah help all those beseeching him around the globe.
For such a dangerous storm the hurricane has a very non-threatening name "Sandy" doesn't sound evil at all. :p

^ In Atlantic Ocean, names of possible storms are selected in advance and are in Alphabetical order. These storms can become hurricane (as in Sandy's case) but will sustain their name. Here is the list of 2012 names. Everything before Sandy has already happened. Next one, if happens will be Tony.
