We have also been told that democracy and political Islam are incompatible. But the proof from Egypt and elsewhere is far from conclusive, in fact the brotherhood have on balance probably been better democrats than the more Westernised secular political forces. It is the bloody crackdown on the brotherhood which threatens to make the incompatibility argument a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Brotherhood’s embrace of the democratic process has evolved over decades of interaction with the political realities of authoritarianism in Egypt and elsewhere and of lessons learnt from the costs, including personal, of pursuing violent struggle. The current cohort of Brotherhood leaders are in no hurry to abandon politics and embrace violence.
Still, the more this becomes an existential struggle and a region-wide attempt to definitively crush the Brotherhood by any means, the more difficult it will be to maintain discipline within the ranks.

why cant people condemn such acts of violance clearly.? why they have to twist words to make it more softer like the one below.

That shows the growing polarisation, the liberals cannot condemn the brutal killings of Islamists and the Islamists cannot condemn the killing of ordinary people in suicide bombings and sectarian killings.

No one condemns or mourns the loss of innocent lives. Every opportunist Tom, Dick, Harry is more concerned about inciting more hate by their truly evil "errm yeah but Islamists killed more people" or "no no secularists have done exactly the same thing" crap . May Allah swt have mercy on Egypt. A loss of human life is a loss for entire humanity. At this point no sane human with an ounce of shame and goodness should judge the dead or defend the killers, no matter who they and their beliefs are.

Its interesting that some of the Islamic countries in the gulf have pledged support to the new egyptian government, the same countries who are supporting the islamists in Syria.

Innocents dying is certainly a tragedy, but the crux of the issue is whether people will hold their own "side" accountable. Will people who prefer secular governments criticize the army's measures? Will those who are pro Islamic government recognize that Morsi was pushing through a constitution that marginalized minorities?
The Islamic Brotherhood is fine, they were elected, but what's not okay is for them to use their power to subvert democracy. They came to power through democracy. They should respect it, and not try to implement Sharia-like laws. The Army needs to negotiate without using violence. Killing their own people is despicable.

the Americans have influence and are involved in Egypt don't try to deny this obvious fact.
The killings was so shocking the US was forced to comment and distance themselves from the regime in a PR stunt.

Btw, if true, then what does brotherhood want to gain by attacking churches? See this is the kind of crap that has them isolated now not to mention the will to marry 5 year olds debate when that hadith is not even fully sahih (dispute on 16 and 19 not 6 and 9).

El Baradei is gone now, but I don't get why he was there as deputy PM in the first place. If Morsi was subverting the electoral process / democracy, then the civil society should have put tabs on them so that they would stick to the narrow path. I mean it happened in Bangladesh even if the country is not perfect.
