**Heavy bursts of automatic gunfire were ringing through the streets of eastern Cairo this morning as the Egyptian authorities went to war with Islamists cowering amid the tents and alleyways of their huge protest camp in Nasr City, a suburb of the capital.
Latest estimates from the Muslim Brotherhood put the number of dead well into the hundreds.**
As police helicopters hovered overhead and huge plumes of black smoke billowed into the morning sky, security forces armed with semi-automatic rifles and tear gas laid siege to the sit-in from roads surrounding the camp on several sides.
In the hospital at the centre of the sit-in, dead bodies were being stretchered down the central staircase on their way to the basement morgue. Injured protesters were lying on the corridor floor, moaning in pain as others were carried in from the streets outside. Agonized screams filled the hallway.

Oh and say these killings are due to secular beliefs which doesn't make sense if you understand the word secular...
They pale into insignificance compared to the numbers killed by islamists trying to implement an ideology the people don't want. If the people did want it, it would be fairly easy to implement wouldn't it.

Just saw this on the news, this is another massacre how on earth can you start shooting at people demonstrating is this what the new government is about kill anyone they don't agree with?
military coup was bad enough this is just horrible. May allah(swt) protect the innocent people being shot on sight!

Wait, how are you blming this one on the west? They didn't even 'impose' democracy on Egypt. The people of Egypt forced out Mubarak and replaced him with democracy.

the blame lies at the doors of the Secular forces in Egypt in particular the military.
The US funds the egyptian army of course they have influence and turn a blind eye when its in their interests.

The figures are from the Muslim brotherhood who have a vested in inflating the figures.
Its amazing how almost every problem in the Islamic world is blamed on the usual suspects ie the West and America, a sheer case of denial by many here.

Wait... who was funding the Egyptian Military and its Dictator for decades ...pumping billions of dollars?
Who is supporting the ouster of a democratically elected prime minister and backing the army (and funding it) that is killing its own civilians??
Oh right......it must be the saudis or osama or talibans doing all of the above...
