Humanity and Pakistani Media

**Self-censorship in media good or bad ?

A man is shown being shot and then bleeds to death without blurring the image or any warning discretion advised !

Is this acceptable ?**

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

No! never!

i just keep thinking of the guys mother/ family, for them to be repeatedly shown how he went is beyond barbaric :( for these news channels, its just another story, theres's no thought put into the people such footage affects.

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

I hate the insestivity of our media. They just want sensationalism. Dead bodies, killings, videos of tortures - anything to get more public to witch to their channel.

that way, I really like USA TV. They almost never show any graphic footage. I mean the news of that guy getting killed is enough, why do I need to see the video of that.

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

whats wrong with that?? you don't like it..switch off.......

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

Well there should be a warning. For example BBC will always warn you of graphic content before showing footage like that. Showing it is not the problem, we're not kids and don't need to be a nanny state.

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

How many of you have kids at home ?

Do you ask them to leave the room the moment you switch on the Tv or when this kind of thing airs on tv ? Can you supervise those kids 24/7 when watching tv ?

Secondly the relatives and friends of the person slayed.....do they deserve to see this video aired every few minutes ? ***

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

excatly. and then what it has to do with kids. Do you guys as an adult find some pleasure in watching someone dying? No, right. Then what purpose such videos serve.

Let me remind you that all the kidnapping and decapitating by terrorists started after Daniel Pearl's video was released. Evil minds learnt from it and rest is history. I dont see anything good coming out of such videos.

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

fully agree with you!! .. its so insensitive of them to show those videos!!

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

specially during these times... they just intensify feelings to no end. Just for the sake of ratings. Losers.

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

The deceased guy's family is mourning , his father is in hospital because he had heart attack. They are not watching TV. Media in Pakistan only will follows government guidelines , that too if a heavy penalty or fear of closure is associated with it. So this mader pidar azad media is ok when it comes to political footage. But this kind of graphic material would only be censored if there are legal guidelines for it to be censored.
Why don't you not see them showing naked men and women ? Or gali galoch , do you think those TV channels are shareef , or they care about society ? No they do not do it because there are legal consequences of doing so.
It is now time that they should make some laws around showing any graphic footage like this.

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

As much as I think the US is too lawsuit happy. I think there should be some of that in Pakistan, sue the cops individually and the dept, and sue the stations for emotional distress etc.

Not that it will make anything right here, but in general if media and police etc is sued they may act a little more responsibly, but then again knowing the judicial system there it wont mean jack.

btw were;nt their long marches to do all that independence of judiciary and all, when would be there any marches for accountability of judiciary?

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

Almost a year or two years ago, i had watched them talking a lot about media policy and all agreed on not showing such scenes. I am sure they kept following it for some time and dont know why they have gone off track again.

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

The one shooting in the video and the ones showing it uncensored just to get more popularity are equally barbaric.

Re: Humanity and Pakistani Media

If it were written in text it wouldn't be getting as much reaction as it is getting now.

I do think it was disrespectful of Samaa TV for airing this video because the guys brother works as a Journalist for Samaa TV.
