Re: HTC ONE (M8)

Nokia 8350 is still a better phone. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/iipcache/45790.jpg

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

Honestly, I thought the same before. But this (YouTube) video explains “ultrapixels”. It is a bit shocking that a company that big would take such a huge risk, but… after watching that vid, it doesn’t really seem that bad. :hmmm:

Disclaimer: The vid features the M7, not the M8

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

I’ve been ridiculously obsessing over this phone for the past few days. I’m (kinda) pretty convinced I don’t want to wait for the s5.
I’ve been weighing the pros and cons, and it’s come down to almost literally the flip of a coin :smack:

I’m heading into the store to “play” with the M8 tomorrow. If I end up pulling the trigger (which I’m (kinda) pretty sure I will…), I’ll post my review/ first impression.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

Okk M&M !!

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

I went through all the flagship phones of 2013 (S4, Z1, Note3) and ended up with HTC One (M7), this is the best phone i have ever used and the best mobile display i have ever seen. Sense (HTC's Android interface) is actually an improvement to the stock android than the clusterf*ck that is Samsung's Touchwiz (this is coming from an AOSP warrior). Only drawback for me is the power button placement (its a tall phone and the power button is on top, hard to press). I solved that issue with a rooted option (volume down button as the wakeup key and a simple swipe down gesture as the lock/display off option). HTC One (M8) is even taller than M7, but it has the knock on unlock option and as its an overall improvement to the best phone in the market, I will be waiting for it.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

I will not look back again at HTC for the major issues with their EVO 4G phone that I had. Could only use it for 3 months before it went bad. I could take touchwiz any day over HTC.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

What's up with the camera of this crappy phone? Sheesh.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

Why is everyone so against the TouchWiz UI? Just put on a different launcher and get over it. I am carrying around a Note 3 right now. I've gone through all the phones too and have found Samsung ones to hang on to. My favorite combo was the S4 with the Google Play Edition (GPe). I am loving the pure, raw speed of the Note 3 though. Currently on the Wicked ROM with stock kernel and Themer Launcher. Battery life's been amazing (unplugged 24 hours ago and I'm at 41%).
Rayan, how did you find the battery performance of the M7? It was just god-awful. Hopefully M8 handles the battery better. I might get it, even though the camera gadgetry it comes with isn't so appealing.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

Its not just the UI of Touchwiz, they replicate the core android apps and you end up with bloats than run at system start, S-this, S-that. And i hate their design, the only Samsung phone i ever liked is S4 (i was running GPE on it). Now i have a Nexus 5 and M7, and i feel Sense 5.5 is actually an improvement to the pure android (am still a Holo warrior)

On M7 i gets almost the same battery backup as the S4, say a day of normal use, M8 is almost 60% better than M7 on the reviews. And m7 camera is fine for a mobile phone, will try M8 once it launches here

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

How was your play date with the M8, mate?
Did you do any specific tests, i.e. speed, carrier etc?

I’m still not convinced about the ultra-pixel boat that HTC is so hyped about. That and the battery life of the M7. Somebody mentioned that it goes the same as the Samsun S4, which I totally disagree with. I’ve seen people recharging multiple times during the day. I’m hoping they fixed that in the M8.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

Ahhh sorry, forgot to update you guys!

First thing… LOVE the feel of the phone. Sits very comfortably in my hands. The 90% metal casing, also a huge plus! Didn’t really feel slippery or anything. And the 10% plastic wasn’t bad. The power button was clicky. Didn’t bother me much, but I’d probably be using the tap to wake feature anyways.

I went in the evening, so the fluorescent lights were on inside the store, and I could test the cam in the dark/ outside.
Speed wise, Verizon 4g LTE. Processing speed wise… :bummer: The phone was the display phone so the people before me downloaded and installed every stupid thing I could imagine, and then some. Obviously stock, nothing too magnificent.

I’ve had Samsungs for the last 6+ years, and I actually like Touchwiz… And like Tofi said up there ^, if it’s that much of an issue, it’s not hard to root/ get a different launcher. HTC Sense, it’s clean and everything it claims to be. Over all, it is what it is. Didn’t focus too much on it since I could replace I wanted, but it was quick smooth and not laggy.

Now, the camera. DUN DUN DUNNNN!!! Lol
The front facing (5 mega pixel cam) is brilliant. As long as the screen and/ or screen protector isn’t scratched, skyping/ video chatting/ etc will be much clearer and detailed. And… who wouldn’t like clearer selfies?

The rear facing cam… In side, it was fun to test colors. I compared pictures taken with the M8 and the S3. Definitely visible difference regarding image crispness. They weren’t bad, but not as great as the s4 or now the S5. The re-focus feature on the m8 was cool, but not as accurate as others have claimed. The other camera features were also fun to play with… but I honestly think if the megapixel count was higher, it’d totally be worth it. For the quality the ultrapixel cam is throwing out, the features are sort of a waste.
Outside (low light), how ever, there was def a visible difference.. for the better. On my s3, there was loads of noise visible, especially zoomed in. But the m8’s cam took decent pictures. Again, not crisp clear, but realistically, how often will I be taking pictures in low light?
Also, video on the m8 was not impressive either. Sort of choppy if I moved too quickly. thumbs down

Battery life… A few (maybe more like 5+) years ago, I think testing battery life was more accurate. Now, every user is different. Not everyone is an “average” user, just like not everyone is a heavy user. The phone at the store is constantly plugged in to a power source, unfortunately. So I didn’t even bother paying attention to the battery usage while I was playing around with it.

I ended up walking out of the store empty handed. What held me back? Well, for 1, I use my phone to take pictues A LOT. I dont carry my camera around because it’s a clunker. So being able to whip out my phone (which I always have on me), being able to take snap a picture, and share immediately with out editing is key. I appreciate what HTC is trying to go for, and after watching the vid I posted above I was really looking forward to testing out the camera. But, again, not impressed or wowed like I’d hoped.
Also, the battery. I KNOW I KNOW!!
Almost every phone I’ve had for at least the last 4 years, I’ve either had a second battery, if not an extended battery pack. I’m constantly on my phone doing anything and everything. I use it more than I do my laptop/ pc. So… although some might say the batt is comparable to that of the s4, I don’t really like the idea of having to be plugged in or even charging every night :hinna: How snobbish, right? First world problem!! LOL

Over all, I think I was mostly in love with the hype. I felt like I needed the latest and “greatest”. And the fact that it was exclusively available with Verizon made the deal that much sweeter. I think I’m just gonna hang tight and tough it out with my little crappy phone, even if it is falling apart. :hehe: S5, here we come!!

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

Good review!

I was going to buy a camera and was told by the person on the front desk that the best camera is what you have on you. That's why I love my Note 3.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

At the end of the day, it's back to our Galaxy.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

HTC no way. I would keep S3 rather than switching to HTC even when I like the design of HTC one

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

I feel the same way about HTC.

Re: HTC ONE (M8)

I think Nokia has the best cam.
