Good point~ However you wear the dress for your self not for those sitting inthe hall staring at you. For them no matter what you wear and how much or how little you spend, its never right and there are a million things they can point out wrong. So its your day, you wear it for your self!
Hey femme- vera wang charges 5k and above for her simple wedding gowns. Her signature pieces start at 15k .... i guess its all about what one would like to spend on their most important dress ;)
I’m in NYC and will get engaged next year. I’ve been searching high and low for a really nice, CLASSY bridal lengha for my engagement party. Finding something even nice that won’t make me look like a christmas tree has been impossible. I went to Edison, and everything looked tacky. Even the really expensive stuff, it was expensive because of the 5 million beads. I found some nice outfits at www.Sila.com, and have requested them to send me some fabric samples. I checked out the HSY studio website, and the outfits were indeed gorgeous, but perhaps I’ll consider shelling out that kind of money at my wedding, if my father doesn’t have a heart attack first.
I’ve been reading through the posts you guys have put up, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a boutique in NY, or a good tailor who will custom-make my outfit? Anyone have any suggestions? Oh, and in case anyone’s interested, I think this is the one I’ll go with from Sila if I can’t find out anything better: http://www.sila.com/product_detail1.asp?SID=1&menuNav=3&Product_ID=8&Category_ID=10
^ Is it possible for u to go to Pak and get something there maybe? Also, have u tried Jackson Heights? There's tons of shops there , you're bound to find something u like :)
True Amelie, I think upto Rs.40,000-rs.50,000 is what i would ideally like to spend too. And u can get some gorgeous lehngas for that amount in Pakistan. One of my cousins was getting married on a very short notice so she had to pick up a ready made one. She bought it from Mohsin Sons in Pindi only for I think 35,000 or maybe even less and it was absolutely gorgeous.
Syani that shirt doesn;t have any 'kaam' on it at all . I'ld carry on looking for something else.
^ Usually bridal clothes have minimal kam on the shirt with heavy stuff on teh skirt n duputta.. for regular lenghas, theres heavy kaam walay kameezes and more plain lenghas/duputtas.. somethin i've noticed in Pak anyway
:( I can't take the time off to go to Pakistan and get an outfit made. I tried Jackson Heights, and so far, no luck. Everything is in the Indian style, and it just looks so... overdone. The Pakistani bridal wear is very elegant and classy, and the materials are of excellent quality, which is what appeals to me the most. Femme... I'm gonna see if i can get them to put some light kaam on the shirt, but either way, I think i'm ok with a simple top. Do you guys think the skirt looks too colorful? That's my main worry. I'm 27, and I don't want to look like a kid.
ps - if anyone's interested, I was on the HSY website and I read that he will be opening branches in Toronto and New York in the year to follow.
Hey syani1 - There's an aunty in long island, she has her own shop on Old country road in Hicksville. You can give her a design and from what i've heard she gets it made pretty close to what you'd like. There's no harm in checking her out I think. I'll get you the name and number, gimme a day or so.
I don’t know when, but I emailed them to find out, so if I get a reply back with a date, I’ll be sure to post it. Also, I don’t know if they do or don’t have anything from HSY, but this store in NJ http://www.zariboutique.com/Bridals2.htm has a banner for HSY, so you might call them and find out. I’ll probably take a trip to that store within the next couple of days, if I see something from HSY, i’ll post it.
Sara, it seems to work best, i think. I've asked them to send me sample swatches, and should be getting them in within the next 2 weeks. Will figure it out from there.
