Hey guys,
i recently ordered hp 12 cell battery for my laptop from ebay.. i currently have the 6 cell battery which used to give me good amount of time like at around 4 hours but now it hardly gives me 2 hours.. i was thinking how good is a 12 cell battery’s life will be?.. or what should i be expecting?

It all lies in recharging of the battery . More you will discharged and recharge it , longer it will stay .

what if i have it on power outlet most of the time?.. is it still the battery thats running?
can i expect about 6 to 7 hours of battery life with fully charged?

first thing, if its from hongkong, china, or u paid rock-bottom prices for an "OEM" (non-hp/compaq brand), it will perform like that..
second thing, try running battery from 100% full till u absolutely MUST start charging it again (I believe with proper tweaking, u can bring it down to 3-4%) and keep your usage like that.. (minimum time sitting at 100%, maximum drainage) this keeps your batteries last longer

12 cell batter should definitely last 7-8 hours.
If you continually leave your lappy plugged in then just take the battery out. The newer laptops (and other electronics) have these mechanisms that cut off power once the battery is charged but why take a chance.
It also depends on what kinda machine u have and what processor it sports. My old Vaio (about 5 old lasts about 8+ hours. Its got a 1.7 ghz PentiumM.

thanks tofi and confused. im running a processor of 2.0gHz core duo. 7-8 hours shouldnt be hard to achieve right?

Actually I heard that its one of the worst things you can do to your laptop battery, although one of our laptop is also always plugged in ..

Most batteries even on cellphone or cordless phones have 'memory'.
Charging them too often shortens their life. Some people put the phone on charger every time not in use. Not a good idea.
Simple rule: Do not charge battery until you have to.
One of my cellphone battery is still good for six years following this rule.

Agreed, just need to add that let the battery discharge to 0 and then charge it fully. If not possible everytime you use your laptop then do it ATLEAST once aweek. Never put in on power for longer duration if its already fully charged.
