how to write/speak descriptively

Suggest a few sitcoms and stand-up comedies for us to watch

Sitcoms; friends, Simpson’s, big bang theory. What I love about these shows is that though their comedy does become adult, but the jokes are never disgusting or bazaari.

For the same reason, stand-up acts of Jerry Seinfeld and Ellen Degenres are the best. Good clean (mostly) humor.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

Since I am not an expert in this, I will only share what has helped me speak/write in a more articulate and descriptive fashion. One of the things that helped a lot is, well, reading and writing. The more you read, the frequent exposure you will have with words - frequent exposure/repetition triggers memory. Also, pick up a pen and write out your thoughts as if someone is going to critique you on it. Practice makes perfect.

Hope this helps answer your question.

Thank You :hat:

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

How very articulate and descriptive of you, Haroon bhai! Now say the same thing in Urdu since you’re from the Urdu wing of Centcom.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

Uthak bhaithak is a very good exercise. 3 Rep’s of 30 is prescribed.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

yes…we used to play a card game called “loading” and, in that game, the loser will do as many “laddul” [uTTak baiThak] as his card-in-hand has points. it was fun!

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

In paathshala, it used to be called dhand baithak also I think.

Hope OP is taking notes.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

:salute:

For my fellow forumians! Please press Ctrl and + to zoom in, and it will make Haroon’s posts easily readable, and then Ctrl and - to reduce to normal size again. These are the most concise and descriptive instructions to this problem that I could come up with at this moment.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

Practice makes perfect! I improved my writing by continuously striving to make my essays better in school. The hard work paid off. The more time and effort I put into it the better I became.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

Oh wait, I see your question is a bit different than what I had thought…hmm to write and speak eloquently does take practice but it also requires the right exposure. Watching and listening to plays/talk-shows/news where people speak the way that you want to helps a lot I would say. Also reading newspapers would too.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

Well said Anniee88.
Reading newspapers. Kids these days think smartphone has it all.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

Three things.

  1. Read
  2. Write
  3. Engage in conversations with intellectuals
  4. Gather a good company around you.
    and most importantly:
  5. Counter every post and thread on GS for a while using a new nick. Using this same nick to do so might get you in lot of trouble and make you lose all your friends on GS.

All this will work , you have signed and sealed money back guarantee.

P.S: Do not get hung up around the count of these points pay attention to what is being said instead of superficial things.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

What is the # of points?

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

You aren’t very observant aren’t you.

Re: how to write/speak descriptively

Just observed. Fuzzy math. 3 =5?
