It all depends HIGHLY on his mood
If u guys are having a occasion thingy, then it would be fine. Otherwise the guy comes from work and is damn stressed and frustrated and all of a sudden he sees you standing in front of him with a sexy attire and make up, what do you think his reaction will be????? LIKE EXCUSE ME!!!!!
Therefore, again it all depends on his mood and the day sequence.........

if you find that he is stressed out at work than a nice relaxing weekend plan or even a nice dinner plus chitchat (movies/games) would work wonders..

you could leave a sweet note in his lunchbag for work or jacket pocket
you could organise a day doing things specifically that he likes, ie they have gift packages here in the uk (dont know if theres anything similar where you are but find out)like a day at a car racing track and you get to try it out yourself too
you could surprise him with a gift you know he's wanted for a while?
you could make his fave food as a surprise
I read this is a mag: Leave surprise notes for him in places he frequently visits such as his car seat.... somthing like a note saying "I love you" ... cayoot!

Am I the only one who would find it annoying if little notes just cropped up during my day. I’d be like jeez what a waste of ink and paper! 
If I wanted to ‘surprise’ him I’d hire out a tribal witch doctor costume and jump at him in the dark screaming “A OOGA BOOGA BOOGA!!!” Now, that’d be effective.
^ If that doesn't surprise him, pick your nose and flick the goods right at him and repeat. "aa ooga booga booga" that'll surprise him for sure.
