I know we’ve to maintain khushoo during normal namaz as well but that is short as compared to whole taraweeh. Though, I luv the beautiful qirat our young huffaz have, in the masjid. But I still cannot stop my mind from wandering here & there. All sorta calculations, worries, everything start once we stand up and progress during taraweeh.
Is there anyway to focus on the Qirat? Any general exercise if anyone has experienced?
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
The best way is to work on learning the meaning of Quran. Once you get involved in that learning process you will concentrate on what is being recited and what does it mean. It is the best way to gain khushoo.
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
Ya you are right, but what you are mentioning is a broad picture, like a longterm process. But right now for this year when around 22 taraweeh are left, how should I proceed with it?
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
There is no easy we to do it. If it was so easy everybody will be Wali ullah.
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
I understand it cannot be easy but there must be something I can stick to. Anything to keep in mind... anything???!!
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
yeah try to concentrate on the words, even if you dont know the meaning, just try to listen each n every word. thats wot i do... u ppl can try it.

Next best thing is to make a conscious effort to stay focused. Whenever you realize that your mind is wondering off start the process all over again. It is hard to listen to and stay focused on a conversation with Allah if you do not understand the language. Whenever you get a chance listen to Dars a Quran by Dr. Farhat Hashmi. She tells you word for word meaning , then repeats them as a complete translation , then she gives a tafseer. In the short run you can skip the tafseer. The good thing about her method is that she relates Arabic words to Urdu words that makes it so easy to remember.
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
The saying of Imaam Shaa'fiee comes to mind for this issue....
That, the way to keep your concentration is focus.. if you cant focus ..thas because the inner nafs which previously soo controlled by shiataan takes over .. a person loses concentration .. so just in mind .. the person recites ta'awwuz and spits on both sides of shoulders not literally or you ll get a slap from ppl from both sides lol ... and even after this .. then .. it is out of your control ...and what Imaam shafi'ee says at this moment is that .. this is a sign of acceptance .. as a chor only does chori where there is treasure .. so shiataan only attacks where there is genuinly sincerity, trying to gain khushoo and khzuu .. but if at first moment one thinks yehh lets strt thinking about what time am gona get home and go slp or what ever, without trying to focus first ...then act on the hadith of Prophet SAW ..by reciting ta'awwuz ..
hope it helps.
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
^ Yes .. this is as Fbi786 has said ... Another way to prevent the thoughts, is to think that you will die. That this is your last prayer and you need to make it a good one.
If you feel a bit of laziness coming on then with your lips try to follow the recitation without making a sound.
Keep reminding yourself to stay focussed
The rest is as brother Mirch says ... total focus can really only be done by the awliyya
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
a couple of things I sometimes do:
- I try to picture the each word (in my mind) that the Imam is reciting
- I try to recite (in my mind) what the Imam in reciting (bascially repeat in my mind what he is reciting)
- Also follow the Imam with a small Quran that I hold during Taraweeh
- from Ihsan: "It is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state then you must remember that He is seeing you".

recently i figured out that reading plain arabic is not as much fun. When you know the translation even listening to it gets easier.
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
concentrate on the words... the pronunciation and the meaning of each word... and as Psyah said, who knows it might be our last prayer, so make the most out of it...
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
^^ just to clarify .. I read it in a book that a Wali of Allah cant remember his name at the moment said that ...
When you pray Imagine your self that you are on the bridge of siraat and you could fall into the trap any second, Imagine the Heaven on your right and hell on your left and the ka'ba infront of you and lastly .. the angel of death above you as he may take you any second and have the belief that this IS your last prayer ..so make it worth while ..
and as BBQ ..quoted from hadith e Jibraeel.... that you can see Allah ta'ala but if you cant ..then have the belief that he can certainly see you ...*this is to show your fear/humbleness ..and if a supreme power is watching over you .. you do not wana make a mistake so you stay attentive ..i.e. cctv ..you go in to a bank to gain something or bank it in .. you know if you try to gain something the wrong way or in a false way ..cctv is watching you .. similarly .. you are trying to gain reward and bank in your good deeds with Allah .. you dont want mishaps ...

I believe a persons namaz is not valid if you hold a qur'an as holding something is an action outside of namaz ..as the ruling in fiqh is that once the takbeer e oola is said .. everything else becomes haram except that which is part of prayer .. ...
ps. psyah may clarify on this if wishes to .. :)

Like Fbi n Psyah said. Here is a hadeeth in this regard. Try this act before reading Qur’an/namaaz.
Allah SWT! will help u ![]()
Hazrat Usman
ne Hazrat Muhammad
se kaha: Ay Rasool Allah
shaitaan mere darmiyan or meri namaaz or qirat ke darmiyan rakawat bn giya hy k woh namaaz or qirat mujeh pr ghalat kr deta hy. Rasool Allah
said. Yeh aik shaitaan hy jis ka naam “khanzeeb” hy. Jab tum issay mahsoos karo to teen (3) martaba is se Allah ki panah mango ro bain (left) janib teen (3) dafa thook (spit) do.
Hazrat Usman
farmatain hain ke mein ne aisa hi kiya or Allah SWT! ne us se mujeh door rakha. [Muslim 4/1729]

Yes, anything that is Amal-e-kaseera nullifies the act of namaz
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
Most of the suggestion above given r awesume.
if u wont b able to concentrate , jst listen wht is recited n try to copy in by ur lips but with zero voice volume lik recite in ur heart , n if possible hafiz som part of quran, u really love tht part of travey where part of quran u hav learn by heart ...
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?

and he gave me a wazeefa hope it will help u and everybody INSHALLAH

لا ھولاولاقوة الابالا
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
I don't know the meaning of the words either :( So I make a conscious effort to listen out for correct Tajweed. This year my brother is leading the Taraweeh prayers so I'm trying extra hard to pick a fault in his pronunciation but he's too damn good!
Try it?
Re: How to stay focused during Taraweeh?
I read the translation of the surahs that are going to be recited at Taraweeh during the day. Before Taraweeh the Imam gives a summary of the surahs so it jogs my memory. During Taraweeh the familiar words jump out and help me remember what is being recited. That helps a lot with keeping my mind focused.
