Re: How to meet someone from the opposite gender and where?
Don't marry someone you meet on the internet!
Many times when you chat on the net with someone you and that person try and make a really good impression on the other. Even if you do meet someone in that way, make sure you get to know them in person for a long time after as friends first. Plus on the net you can edit whatever you say, wish that was the case in real life too:).
I think the best way to get to know someone is if you're around them all the time in person so you can see what they are really like-flaws, pet peeves, etc

I do agree with that last part. Getting to know someone in person is the sure way to go however sometimes it just doesnt work out that way. If 2 people are genuine about who they are and if they are sincere in showing each other their true personalities....then meeting someone of the net might work out. Only thing is that it cant remain an internet relationship forever. It has to evolve into something more eventually (ie meetings, phone calls, parent involvement etc)
Re: How to meet someone from the opposite gender and where?
But there is a difference between an online personality and an in house one(if that makes sense).
With meetings and phone calls, do you get to know the person's real personality. The personality that you would be around almost every day in the future. You can only get that when you live with the other person and let's face it, with desis that's just not possible. Two people can only live together after they are married so when you meet online, I just feel like you're taking a huge risk. I've seen this "You've Got Mail" kind of relationship work out well and then i've seen ones that were horrible disasters.
Hopefully if you are in an online relationship it will work out well:)

no im not in an online relationship.
arent u taking a risk either way....in an arranged marriage you dont really know the person and online you dont really know the person. Online relationships can (depending on if the 2 parties are into dating) turn into a in-person relationship.

^Yea I was going to say arranged might be same but many times(not every time of course) don't the parents know the person since he might be a family friend or someone they've known for a long time? I think if a desi person's parents arrange a marriage for their son/daughter, they usually ask around a lot about the person to anybody that might know him/her well. With an online hook up, it might be difficult to do something like this.
But the risks come with any kind of relationship. One just hopes that he/she ends up with a good person.

Re: How to meet someone from the opposite gender and where?
it is interesting to note that when you go to indian chat rooms they are quite empty as opposed to pakistani chat rooms which are full of people which means indians have less problems getting dates.internet is not a good option for the simple reason that you don't get to see the other person unless they turn on the cam or show a pic which most pakistani girls won't do.
I got hooked up with this girl through a chat room in Pakistan,we talked on the phone for a while,I showed her my pic and turned on my cam,she showed me a few of her blurry pictures.. after a while we decided to meet, she turned out to be 4-9 or 4-10 and skinny, almost a midget.I was left in a difficult situation cause I knew I was'nt attracted to her yet did'nt want to hurt her,I just apologised later on and cut off my relationship.
Re: How to meet someone from the opposite gender and where?
so why are there a lot of people complaining about their “arranged spouse”???
are you in an online relationship inpak??
well i’ve seen online relationship work well, other falll apart, same with in person relationship…
internet is just a “medium” to meet people, but it’s not the way to know someone:halo:…my boyfriend and I know each other because we read each other’s face on cam…we can understand if someone is hiding something …without any words, just cause we see each other on cam, as if we were face to face…
we talk with microphone, or telephone…just like any couple who are separated in real life…
and instant messengers, like msn, yahoo, etc… do not gice the opportnunity to “edit” unlike gupshup…it’s instant!
if you don’t trust a man, if you don’t believe in relationship, if you don’t give yourself the boldness and freedom to RISK a relationship…you’ll never find love…SURE love is risky…but life is risky too:wink:
Re: How to meet someone from the opposite gender and where?
:Dlol, one friend of mine went to a date yesterday with a guy she met on msn…she is a very small girl…but the guy was smaller then her …too bad he liked her and call her back to tell her how sweet, nice and intelligent she was…:halo:
NO! but make sure you get to know the person outside a chatroom before marrying;)
i know couples who are happily married…they met on net first BUT got to know each other by phone and holidays later on…
Re: How to meet someone from the opposite gender and where?
Perhaps Gupshup crew should make a matchmaking forum..its pretty obvious that there are alot of gupshup users who are single and on the look out. I'll be the first one to write my resume :D
Re: How to meet someone from the opposite gender and where?
Sometimes, your friends know you better than your family. Put the word out that you are available and looking for a serious relationship (meaning marriage) and have your friends/cousins/family introduce you to people. You may not meet someone in Holland, but in a neighbouring country instead. Keep your options open and try all the various routes of meeting people.
Re: How to meet someone from the opposite gender and where?
Well I don’t know about it being just “arranged spouses” that complain about each other, I’ve seen people who started with love marriages complain about spouses too. All i’m saying is that even with in person meetings you only get to know how a person really is by living with them every day.
Meeting someone on the internet is the first step but knowing about their flaws and irritations is also a really long and important step since both of your personalities, flaws and all should match so you don’t end up killing each other
after marriage.(
I’m not saying don’t meet people on the internet. All i’m saying is make sure you’re around the person a lot afterwards for as long as possible before you make it into more than a friendship:blush:
