hehehe....

Re: flower garland for bride/groom.

Mainly white carnations with red roses in-between so it doesnt weight the garland down..made on the day or night before wid fresh flowers using white cotton thread - good luck!

How to Make flower Gajra/Phool Ka Haar at Home in the USA!

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a good phool ka haar and ghajraay? like what to use as the wire or where to order the fresh flowers, or how early to make them? we don't know any place here that sells them ready made so i think first we have to order the flowers (any names would be helpful.) i think roses and the white ones..i think order the corsages would be best? what is your opinion.

any good instructions on how to make them would also be helpful! Thanks!!

Re: Making your own phool ka haar

Oh everyone says I've gotten really good at this! I had to make tons for two different events last weekend. I use regular needles and threads. And put the flowers in sideways, so that the petals face outward and bunch up together to make lovely haars.

I find that carnations (small and large) work the best. Roses are nice, the small ones work well, but they wilt very quickly. Big roses weigh down the haar too much.

I made necklaces and bracelets.

Re: Making your own phool ka haar

where are you located? theres several places around toronto that make haars.

to make your own, you could even use a needle and slightly thicker thread too, no? use sturdy flowers like carnations and roses and then just thread them on. otherwise, you can get craft wire at michael's or along queen street, theres a few stores that sell jewellery making supplies and you can get different thicknesses of wire there. this is, of course, only relevant if you're based in toronto.

Re: Making your own phool ka haar

Here’s a photo of one I made last week (white carnations, yellow carnations, two-tone purple carnations, purple mums).

Sorry the photo isn’t great.

Re: Making your own phool ka haar

^ wow! you should do this on the side- i bet plenty of shaadi's would hire you out.

Re: Making your own phool ka haar

^ LOL thanks!

Re: Making your own phool ka haar

oh wow thanks for the picture, that gives a good idea of what to do.
Regular thread works well? i mean does it hold the flowers up well enough so that they don't sag? or do you double the regular thread or something?

Also i like the purple you used it looks nice. So you used the mums on the bottom and then the carnations for the rest of it? and did you use big or small carnations for your phool ka haar in the picture?

And sgc, i don't live in toronto but thanks anyways.

Re: Making your own phool ka haar

I double regular thread. But if you have something stronger might as well use it. Just be careful. If you are using smaller flowers, a thicker needle might break them.

In this one I used small white, yellow, and two-toned purple carnations. And then purple mums and I think at the bottom there are white mums as well. I wish I could show you other pics, but I didn't think to take them of the haar along. All the others have people in 'em and they wouldn't want to be posted.
