well excuse me if I fail to subscribe to this idea of going into a marriage looking for obedience from your partner< . I find the word derogatory and against the very essence of marriage.

You're not the only one geek. I believe that the only obedience I owe is to Allah(swt). I will listen to my husband just like he will listen to me. It's called working together. . . I think that's what God wants. And of course, only He knows best.

- Book 11, Number 2135: * Narrated Qays ibn Sa'd: I went to al-Hirah and saw them (the people) prostrating themselves before a satrap of theirs, so I said: The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) has most right to have prostration made before him. When I came to the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him), I said: I went to al-Hirah and saw them prostrating themselves before a satrap of theirs, but you have most right, Apostle of Allah, to have (people) prostrating themselves before you. He said: Tell me , if you were to pass my grave, would you prostrate yourself before it? I said: No. He then said: Do not do so. If I were to command anyone to make prostration before another I would command women to prostrate themselves before their husbands, because of the special right over them given to husbands by Allah.

Sunan Abu-Dawud is a collection of sayings and deeds of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) (also known as the sunnah). The reports of the Prophet's sayings and deeds are called ahadith. Abu-Dawud lived a couple of centuries after the Prophet's death and worked extremely hard to collect his ahadith. Each report in his collection was checked for compatibility with the Qur'an, and the veracity of the chain of reporters had to be painstakingly established. Abu-Dawud's collection is recognized by the overwhelming majority of the Muslim world to be one of the most authentic collections of the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh), however it is also known to contain some weak ahadith (some of which he pointed out, others which he did not).
Abu-Dawud (full name Abu-Dawud Sulaiman bin Al-Aash'ath Al-Azdi as-Sijistani) was born in 202 A.H. and died in 275 A.H. He was one of the most widely travelled of the scholars of ahadith, going to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Khurasahn, Egypt, Syria, Nishapur, Marv, and other places for the sole purpose of collecting ahadith. His primary interest was in law, hence his collection focuses purely on legal ahadith. From about 50,000 ahadith, he chose 4,800 for inclusion in his work based on their superior authenticity.
It is important to realize, however, that Abu-Dawud's collection is not complete: there are other scholars who worked as Abu-Dawud did and collected other reports.

Crescent and MMF...why look to the hadiths for this when it is clearly written in the Quran:
Surah 4 (An- Nisa) verse 34.
for those of you who have a problem with the word "obedience" i suggest you read the Quran and get a better understanding of the word and the reason behind it.
i also suggest reading** Surah al-baqarah 2:228**

I believe the word obedience used in the Quran is referring to obedience in God's commands, not obedience to husbands.

No actually it's pretty clear in this surah the reference is towards the husband because it talks about the husband....then it goes on to say towards the end...
"on whose part you fear disloyalty and ill-conduct admonish them (first) (next)refuse to share their beds..........but if they return to obedience seek not against them. ......it's obvious that it refers to the husband.
