So Ramadan is around the corner and this year it’s going to be HOT and really long rozay.
Even though you are going to be tired and hungry - the best thing might not be to inhale the plate of deep fried pakoray with sugary drinks.
So what are some things that you can eat at Sehri and Iftar to help you through the day.
here are some of my suggestions
1.** Water** (drink lots of it when you are not fasting). Avoid caffinated drinks
Eat Yogurt - if you don’t like the fruit kind. Make Raita and eat your paratha and roti with it
Eggs for Sehri = good source of protein and will last much much longer than those instant carbs. (best is a boiled egg a day)
Don’t forget your multi vitmains
I open up myfast with 3** khajoor and a BIG TALL glass of 2% milk.** You would be surprised how filling that is.
Get your Lentils in. Chana Chaat, and Kalay Chanay are not only nutrious but excellent source of fiber and calcium. A lot people who are fasting suffer from constipation or other digestive issues.
I’ll post some more ideas up - Happy Fasting Everyone.
Muniya - it's not realistic NOTt to eat junk food - I opened couple of fasts at my local diary queen :) last year
But you can curtail it a bit. Believe me - so many people over eat then they suffer heart burn and indegestion and they can barely stand still during taraweeh prayers.
I consider myself as one of the good amount of cafeine taker. And I'm hoping that I would get rid or reduce it during Ramadhan and would maintain the reduction after it as well.
Also, I take too much sugar, which I'm also aiming to reduce now. :)
Try to eat a healthy but a full sehri.Last year I would have a boiled egg, oatmeal, milk, and then 2-3 dates with chai.Thats what I needed to have enough energy to last me through the day.
And then different kinds of chats at iftari.
Last year I lost aound 9-10 pounds in a month, but it also might have to do with the fact that I had two kids under two at that time, and we were moving house during Ramazan.
We usually avoid fried foods at iftaar because they fill you up and you end up with gas and bloating, and then you can't have dinner.
So this is what we do:
Sehri:
Chapatti and some sabzi/bhuna huwa gosht/egg
or a homemade burger with whole wheat buns and a chicken/or veggie pattie and salad stuff
or a typical breakfast consisting of eggs, hash browns, sausage, toast and baked beans
or sometimes hubby has milk and cereal
For Iftaar,
we usually have, in addition to khajoor:
1. channa dal that is boiled and lightly sauteed with dhaniya, lemon juice garnish
or black choley
2. and always dahi of some sort.
3. and fruit chaat
4. and Rooh Afza milk or milk with nuts.
and a simple dinner such as rice and dal with grilled chicken, or chicken salan, or something that isn't too oily and complicated.
thank you everyone some great suggestions out there..
As I'm trying to adopt a healthy lifestyle and wants to shed some weight aswell I was particularly looking for something like this.
Last year I had roti with youghurt and plenty of water in sehri. and in aftari lemonade/milk+roohafza or a fresh juice. then fruit chat, sometimes its just that and at times dahi barey too. dinner is simple salan with roti or rice but i skipped it sometimes.
this year I plan to have oats/cornflakes/roti with dahi and boiled egg for sehri and in aftari inshaAllah I'll add chats/beans salad its so fulling.
I didn't have cafeine last year but now I am drinking green tea so can I add it in sehri and after dinner?
Don't forget a bit of physical activity. You don't have to go crazy, but maybe a nice brisk 20 or 30 minute walk maybe an hour or so after you've had iftaar...it'll do wonders for your energy level and it doesn't hurt the old waistline either.
I like to hop on the treadmill with my Ipod playing a lecture (Imam Humza Yusuf being one of my favorites).
