The question is , is it morally right to deliver death to a murderer or criminal by a firing squad? Does it bring peace to the murderer’s victim’s loved ones?

Kiths and kins of the those killed in Mumbai carnage by terrorist Ajmal Kasab are waiting for the capital punishment to be awarded to him.Though the verdict has come out ,they all are waiting for the punishment to be done to him imminently.
Sometimes you have to weigh the intensity of the crime committed.

I favour a quick execution for genuinely guilty criminals who have commited a great crime. Best method i say is to be hung.
Firing squad is to heroic a death, and beheading is too messy.
I would reserve a slow painfull death for those who commit crimes on defencelss women and children... something like being fed slowly through a meatgrinder is suitable i think.
But alas nothing i can come up with is anywhere near as painfull as the lords punishments for such people.

Isnt losing life the biggest punishment of all?
Why do we want to give them slow death? I can imagine how revenge takes over ones mind when one loses one's beloved to a crime.
Even Lethal injection is fine , but getting a man to kill a man ... isnt it a crime in itself ...?

^^ scenario.... if i was a muslim .. i knw what my punishment could be .. hang or firing squad fed to the most lethal dogs .. or what ever .. and i knw am guilty within my heart .. everyone knws their own fate .. i d rather choose the quick and painless death .. and get it done and over with ..

because i am a muslim and no matter how corrupt or messed a muslim But a muslim beleif is that you wont be punished for those crimes which you been punished for once already .. thas why when a hanging is unsuccesful he/she cant be hanged again .. and if you are puished in this world that for tat particular crime you wont be punished again cos you paid for it already ..
ofcorse . if he.she is this bad of a muslim .. then Allahs wrath is far beyond of this world .. and he.she will be punihsed according to their actions.
ps. Faris .. i think what i would do for some criminals is feed them live to the lions and bears .. see how they rip him up after the way they had / have been behaving towards innocent women and children.

It's actually a little surprising that they still have the option of choosing death by firing squad. Under the US Constitution, the government is prevented from imposing cruel and unusual punishment and there are certain methods of capital punishment that were abolished so as to not contravene the US Constitution. If there is enough of a hue and cry, the courts could deem death by firing squad to be cruel and unusual and abolish it as well.

It probably brought peace. His victim's brother insisted on the death penalty and was there to witness it in person.

It's a relative term - what one individual may consider to be cruel and unusual may be different than what another considers cruel and unusual. I think it's the perception of pain and suffering of the convict - is immediate death assured by a firing squad - probably not. Lethal injection is supposedly more humane although there are many detractors of lethal injection as well who claim it is cruel form of punishment.

If we bring Islam into the discussion, while punishment for immoral/illegal acts is written, punishment should not be malicious or cruel - a criminal should be treated with compassion and "anything and everything" would not be acceptable.

Compassion? Hell no. The guy that raped the 10 year old girl? I hope he dies a truly horrific death. The one that was a serial killer, same thing. I hope the prison inmates make their lives hell.

You didn't, I introduced religion to the discussion.
To the point bolded above - each of us is responsible for our own actions. The convict's actions are wrong - no two ways about it - but to punish him in a gratuitous manner or to revel in his punishment takes others down the same slippery slope as the convict and questions our own ability to be compassionate and humane.

As someone who has had a loved one die because of criminal scum and I'd want the people responsible to die as painfully as possibly if they get caught. Islamically it may be incorrect or whatever but only THAT would bring some peace and nothing else :)
But I think what Namaan said, I think there is something 'eye' for an eye in Islam if I am not wrong?

It is an Islamic concept indeed. If you commit murder you are put to death. That is part of Islamic jurisprudence.
