I bought a set of dish washing brushes from IKEA .. kept one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. Instead of doing the dishes with them, I clean the sinks and the tub with it ! Works well for me.
For the Toilet seat, you need the round brush. Normally every weekend, I dip it in a water and bleach mixture for a good 20 minutes .. then throw away that water into the toilet. Thats how the brush gets cleaned. Mine doesnt last me for more then 6-8 months. once the handle breaks, I throw them away.
tiled floor, do a quick brush first and then a mop. my issue is hair , I get really bugged with them and even after brushing first they are still there .. so I normally spray Mr Muscle or any other cleaning stuff on the floor, use newspaper or thick tissue to give the floor a quick wipe. once the hair is gone, I then mop it up with disinfectants or bleach.
things needed in the clean up :
Thick bleach
Cillit or any disinfectant to clean the sink , mirror, walls and tub screen
Brushes
Thats about it.
for the toilet, I use the Clorox ToiletWand. It’s basically a stick with a disposable sponge that has cleaner on it…u just clean the toilet and throw the sponge away. Never have to use your hands for ANYTHING.
clorox wipes for toilet seat for daily cleaning and for counters
flushable scrubbing bubbles toilet cleaner, attach to the wand, scrub, clean, flush
swiffer wetjet or swiffer moist wipes for toilet floor
glass cleaning wipes for mirrors
done.
cheap options
vinegar and water mix in one spray bottle
bleach and water in another bottle
rags…old towels, microfibre cloth, even old tshirts turned into rags
toilet brush…just get one with a deeper container and leave a water and bleach mixture in there, after cleaning the toilet just rinse with the flush and then stick it back in its container
I use different cloths/rags/ brushes/ sponges scrubbers for each function.
I’ll use one colored scrubber for the tub and sink.
Another scrubber will be for the toilet cleaning only.
I have a separate rag/cloth for cleaning/wiping the bathroom floor. It will not be used for other things.
Another cloth will be for wiping down the bathroom wall/doors and bathroom cabinets.
Seems like alot, but it is not.
I use quite a few old white T’shirts which have been cut into rags. all are kept in a hallway closet. Use a few times and then discard..
I love doing the preventive measures, so I will not have a blocked up sink/tub to deal with .
POur 1/2 cup- 1 cup baking soda down a bath or sink drain, pour 1-2 cups of vinegar after the baking soda. Let sit for 15 - 20 mins or longer. Flush the drain with very hot water. (do NOT do this if you have already used a drain opener liquid as, it can cause fumes, also can splash out of drain).
The soda-vinegar helps break up all that yucky stuff, like hair, soap scum etc.
I also do the soda-vinegar tip for my kitchen sink. Works like a charm.
How do you keep the faucets clean.
Do you guys clean them everyday ? Otherwise there are water and soap spots on it that make the whole bathroom look untidy.
Is there a way to minimize the appearance of these spots.
Also my husband floods the bathroom when he does wudo. I have to dry our bathroom every time I use it. This is off topic.
Of course you will get water and soap spots, it depends on how OCD you are about it. Wiping down after every use helps minimize the untidy look.
We keep a sponge on the sink counter.
Rule of the family..each person who uses the bathroom, must wipe down sink, taps after each use. Squeeze sponge dry. Must be kept clean for the next person to use. So far so good AH..
OT..My DH also makes a disaster at wudu time, he has 90% come around to wiping down and cleaning the sink area. Fajr time is still a mess!
X2 do you clean the bathroom? You seem quite knowledgable.
Be careful with bleach. It cleans great but you really get sick from the fumes . I have almost passed out a few times. So don’t use full strength bleach. Also it can damage your porcelain toilet seat.
Baking soda and vinegar are wonder cleaners. Google natural cleaners.
Old cotton tags are terrific. Just keep aside after laundry sessions.
Twinklestar, of course. division of responsibility.
bathrooms are my area of responsibility.
also taking trash out, vacuuming and keeping the wood floors in the living area clean.
begum is responsible for kitchen, doing laundry and kids rooms.
I have fired half a dozen cleaning services because they do a crap job, and I hate paying for mediocre work especially where we have to do half the work before the cleaning lady arrives and then touch up after she leaves. We had one really good cleaning lady but she was doing it for her mum’s medical bills in china. She stopped after her mother passed away.
X2 that’s awesome. Every member of the household should really do their share. Loved Ninjamummy’s tip. Cleaning should not be 1 person job. I have noticed those those household that are always clean- everybody does their share. Cleaning ladies are great - but even the wealthy can only afford them once a week. Cleaning is around the clock job. A have a really good friend that trained her hubby as soon as they got married . She did the same with her kids. Initially she invested alot of doing this but now everybody is on autopilot.
It’s things like “training” grown ups that amuse and annoy me at the same time. Aren’t these life skills? How do avg ppl not know how to do simple things?
