Saw pictures of a few guppies skydiving, and as with all skydiving pics, the instructor is a male.
That is fine. Upto a point a where my wife or daughter wish to skydive and there is no female instructor around, I wouldn’t allow them to be strapped to a na mehram.
I believe in knowing how to swim. Everyone should know how to swim, including my wife, my daughters and so on. Why should there be male instructors to teach them how to swim? Why not female? Doctors, lawyers, scientists, there would truly be women who would be serving other women…
The stereotypical image of the lady as a receptionist, secretary are manifestations of western culture…The Islamic woman is a dynamic, active woman of whom some have written histories…Ayesha , Razia Sultana, Rabia Basri :ra: and many more examples of exemplary women…
In the way of segregation would lie more benefit from the women, to the women. All of this knowledge however excludes all forms of businesses. Women make bad business decisions.
Women would truly work for the betterment of woman.

Surely this post is meant in jest. The strides made by women in Western culture are far beyond the “receptionist, secretary” stereotype and light years ahead of the burqa-wearing pieces of property that are common in a lot of non-western countries. The generalization of women being incompetent at business decisions is unfounded and insulting.
Thinko fit this way. In muslim countries, if providing equal opportunities to women in the field of business, entrepreneurship, science and sports was equal to that of men. Their GDP would be twice as high. Unfortunately, the same people here who invoke scriptural details highlighting equality, are keeping women in the back of the bus.
Re: How segregation between the sexes os equality...
Lajwab - It seems you have no problem with being strapped around Female instructors.
It is okay if Men go to female doctors, It is also okay if men go to the female Swimming instructors but it will not be okay for the females in your family to go to a male doctor or male instructors ?? All the rules in this world are for women. aren't they ??
Re: How segregation between the sexes os equality…
Are those the only three names you could figure out ??
You are so ignorant - ever heard the names of Madam Curie, Mother Teresa, Joan of Arc, Annie Besant and many others you just need to read history to find out.
hahahaha … oh my … you people make me laugh!! Lajawab, you are such a fool … I luv it!
Use your brain will ya! The only parts that were strapped together were the shoulders and waist … that’s it! You fall so bloody fast you don’t feel a damn thing.
As ususal, one set of rule for women while anything goes for men. Asif_k :k:. So it’s o.k. for men to be taught by either men/women … but women must stay segregated and taught by other women only. If you tried implementing that in today’s “Islamic” countries, women would be dropping dead like flies cause there are very few women (when compared to the ratio of men) who are practicing medicine, educators, engineers, etc.
Just think for a moment what that would be like. Would you refuse a man giving a woman an operation on her breasts for cancer if there were no female surgeons around? Or would you postpone the operation (allowing the cancer to spread) while you searched for a female surgeon? Would you refuse a man giving a woman CPR if he was the only one around who knew how to do it?
Just look at what the Taliban did to women in Afghanistan with this whole concept of segregation. Women serving other women … especially in hospitals … guess what happened when women were told to stay at home where they belonged? Did women get any medical care? Nope!
Meanwhile, it’s o.k. for women to serve men. Nice theory.
you are telling all this to a bunch who is more inclined towards western values where religion does not have any say. they will only laugh at you. but if you'll talk abt any other religion except islam you'll hear lengthy sermens from the same bunch :~)
If you want to pay for my plane ticket to Saudia Arabia where I will see female doctors and female teachers, then I will be more than happy to travel to there. In fact, why don’t you come with me. Being a woman, most likely I won’t be able to travel around by myself. How does that sound?
Next time you decide to put words in my mouth, why don’t you try putting down something I actually believe rather than your mental rantings.
Islam lays great emphasis on knowledge and education. Both for the man as well as the woman. The specifics of knowledge in Islam is not limited to religious knowledge but should encompass that to include earthly and empirical sciences. It should be her education and knowledge that would make for an outstanding mother and a steadfast Muslimah…
A woman can run a house on a shoestring budget with money to spare, but their decisions don’t work well in business. That’s why you rarely see a woman running an international conglomerate. And it was meant as a jest, not a snide remark…:o
MehnazQ, one man’s fool is another man’s idol…
Thank you for supporting my views…You bring to light the plight of women with great examples. Wouldn’t you like to change that? I mean, I wouldn’t mind you working as my secretary, but then I wouldn’t want to work under you either…
Women always do well when they are secure in the company of other women. They have more fun, they along well with other women no matter how much they may hate each other’s guts.
And anyways, my intention was not to compare the Islamic women to any other way of women. But if it is your intent to compare then why not compare them to Hinduism? I have rarely seen a Hindu women gain heights of glory, or the Buddhist woman or even a Jewish women…
Islam gave our women the fortitude to become kings and conquerors and rise to the top.
Look what’s happening now. The more westernized we become, the more baighairat we become and the more confused we become.
And as for the Taliban, click here and see if they truly suppressed women like they are supposed to have.
To the skydiving guppies, I have no objections to you doing that nor am I raising an issue here about your venture. In fact I envy you doing that...Tell me how much it cost and everything coz' InshAllah, that's next on my list...I would love to skydive...
But can everything be done remaining inside the boundaries of our principles? Think how many jobs for women this segregation will bring...Remember, knowledge is spreading faster these days...Let's hope for the better...
I get what you are saying Lajawab, honestly. You must realise that women have been supressed long enough in ALL male-dominated societies … not just the Muslim countries. However, I do not believe that segregation will necessarily result in women moving ahead in life. In fact, segregation can be used as a tool to supress women. Just look at the status of women in Saudia Arabia. However, if both men and women work together … then perhaps one day women WILL gain the equality and fair treatment they deserve.
Lajawab, Seriously dude...women are not good in business? Four of the eight who sit on my board are women. Including the COO. Women practically run the garment and fashion industries. They are as capable as astronauts as they are as surgeons. Separation is what kept the muslim and other patriarchial societies back of the western world.
It is changing. But people like you are afraid....because all that menial power you have at home would go poof.
