If you dont’ live with them…how often do you speak to your parents?
how involved are they in your daily life, meaning do you tell them about your daily comings and goings or is it more of, talk to them when something important/major happens?

No, they're not involved at all in my daily life. I tell them when something major is happening (example: me going on vacation, if I'm sick, when I got engaged, job/housing change etc). Now that I'm planning my wedding.....I'm keeping them updated on major things such as the shaadi date, the venue we choose etc.

Before my father's death i use to talk to my parents once or twice a week. After Abbu je i talk to amman everyday.When i don't call her by 12 a.m, she calls me in next 10 minutes.

When I was married, I spoke to them everyday and had them over for lunch after Jumah every week routinely.
I don't think it has anything to do with involving them in your personal matters...those things I would never share. I more so made sure I knew what was going on with them at home. I shouldn't find out if my parents need something through someone else.

Ok so I guess i’m the odd one out 
I speak to my parents 2-3 times a week (they live in Pakistan) and its usually more along the lines of..is everything ok? yeah? ok bye. 
i mean we talk about other stuff..but basically I don’t really talk to them about my day to day stuff, like I went to this store or met that friend cooked this food etc…when they’re here, then its easier to share, but for some reaosn on the phone its’ very different..

Yes. My parents met my fiance (at that time BF) 4 months before the engagement…they knew it was a matter of time before it was “official”. The “engagement” wasn’t a surprise. As for the wedding… my fiance and I are paying for it…arranging the entire thing (since BOTH of our parents live in different cities)…so yes…fiance and I chose a date based on the availability of the venue we liked…and told our parents the date.

i call them every morning and speak with Mom, or Dad only if he picks the phone. discuss all family issues but nothing related to my personal stuff or job etc.

I don’t think that’s very uncommon. It’s very similar to the relationship one of my closest cousins has with her mom (who lives back home) and to what my fiance has with his parents (who live in a different state). I agree that’s its very…different…trying to share small daily details if the parents aren’t familiar with your city/enviornment/friends/co-workers etc.

Normally I talk to my parents 2-3 times a week without going into scores of who-called-who. If some family event is coming, or someone is ill then this frequency obviously increases.
My father call almost everyday to talk to his grand kids though. Normally he calls before going for Fajar Namaz in Pakistan (and before my kids bed time) and that call lasts for a minute or two on average.

I talk to my mom everyday and discuss everything going on in my life.....I am such a mama's girl!
